These are a tourist attraction in Katoomba, New South Wales, Australia.
The Sisters stand 922,918 and 906 meters tall. The Aboriginal dream time legend has it that the three sisters, "Meehni", "Wimlah" and "Gunnedoo" lived in the Jamison Valley as members of the Katoomba tribe. The beautiful young ladies had fallen in love with three brothers from the Nepean tribe, yet tribal law forbade them to marry.
The brothers were not happy to accept this law and so decided to use force to capture the sisters causing a major tribal battle.
As the lives of the three sisters were seriously in danger, a witchdoctor from the Katoomba tribe, took it upon himself to turn them into stone to protect them. As the witchdoctor was the only one who could reverse the spell and he was killed in the battle, the sisters remain as the magnificent rock formation to remind generations to come.

Thanks for telling the legend, it makes the photo more than a rock formation. Great photo

Thanks for looking and yes there are many scenic photos but to have some history does seem to make the photo.

The Sisters overlook a beautiful scene and are magnificent. Knowing their story adds a special element to the photo.

I case you missed them, there are people, who are fitter than me , on the walking trail to the left of the first sister. Gives some idea of the scale of these formations.

Wonderful! The story really adds to the impact. I can't speak for any other Americans, but to me Australia is a cool skyline of Sydney, kangaroos, an old aborigine, and a vast unknown to the west. I love seeing photos like this because they fill in blanks for me. Thank you.

Oops! I left out koala bears; Australia is also a place with a bazillion of these cuddly creatures.
