Okay guys and girls, been getting back into the photography hobby after more than a few years hiatus. Dusting off the Nikon DSLR, and the Minolta 35mm's, checking everything out and gathering some nessacary supplies.

Looking for some suggestions on reading material. I've got older books on 35mm film photography, plus individual books on getting the most out of each of my 35mm Minolta's. Also a few guides on my Nikon D5100 and digital photography.

I'm more interested in either online sources outside of the Hog and/or magazine's that cover the developments innovations, resources and artistry of our chosen hobby and/or profession, hats off to the pros here.
So when you settle down on a quiet night or a long flight, what is your chosen material to thumb through or browse over. Thanks for the input.

If you check out the Nikon Web Site, under products you can do a search for compatible lenses. All you need to do is go the the DSLR Lense section and put in D3100 in the filters choice and you'll have a list of all the compatible lenses. I do this when shopping for additional lenses, accessories for my D5100. As not all Nikon lenses are 100% compatible these earlier versions of the D3000 and D5000 series. Also I've found that on Amazon you can check compatibility of a lense on the product page by putting your camera model in to a box at the top of the page.

As others have already stated, how do you plan on using this camera. Have you previous experience with digital photography. Did you own a film SLR in the past? Do currently have a digital point and shoot or a bridge camera and are you feel you're ready to go the next step. I owned two 35mm film SLR's and a host of lenses when my Honey surprised me with a Nikon D5100 kit.

Basically it's all about you, your experience, your expectations and of course you pocketbook.

If you have a decent local camera store I'd start there, if they're good they will not mind answering your questions and presenting you with options. Knowing if they treat you courteously and inform you honestly they'll have a current and future customer. Much luck and welcome to the Forum.

To be honest I haven't a clue to what my old film kit weighed with 2 Minolta xi cameras, a half dozen lenses, more then a couple of flashes, multiple rolls of film, spare batteries, filters and a tripod strapped on the outside for good measure. Never thought about it as I lugged it around the country to to various events, however I am grateful for the back back case for my growing Nikon DSLR kit, definitely better for getting through airports.

A Kodak that was amongst the package of accessories that came with my first PC, a Gateway. I remember it coming with a dock and software to down load photos to the computer. I think it had some type of nonstandard memory card which the computer didn't have a reader for anyhow.

I would contact your states Department of Enviormental Conservation or Department of Natural Resources and inquire on that. Some states require notification on any vehicle/animal unfortunate interactions. You might be running afoul of state law and/or regulations by collecting and/or moving the carcasses, regardless of whether you hit the animal or not. Also rgrenaderphoto makes a good point about changing the area predators established habits and patterns.

I should have added that this would be the beginning of my foray into the fx format and could use some commentary on the camera lens combination as a starter, thanks much.

First off, like to thank everyone for their input on previous topics. You all helped me greatly in deciding the direction I will be taking.

Now I would like to know if anyone out there has had experience purchasing from Best Buy. Now I know it is important to support local shops, however Best Buy is offering a D750 kit with a AF-S Nikkor 24-120mm f/4G ED VR lens, plus other goodies, for $2399.99. While I could undoubtedly find the same deal elsewhere, I have more then a handful of gift cards that would cover nearly have the cost. So fellow UHH people what do you think?

To be honest I had forgotten about Japanese Industrial Standard, and didn't equate it with being used on lenses, my mistake. Unfortunately no you will not find those screwdrivers from Wihia.

Just to add to what I posted, Wihia has numerous sets that come with a variety of drivers, Flat, Phillips, Hex, and Torx.

Sears often has precision Craftsman sets, recently picked one up. You can also try the Wihia, https://www.wihatools.com, website, they sell numerous tools and bits, though it can get a little pricey. However they are of excellent quality, mostly German made.

Dropped off a roll for developing. Was told at the time, would receive the prints and a disc of the pictures but no negatives back as the film was being sent out for processing.

Since I'm just doing this to see how the cameras are functioning and basic picture quality, I'm not going to need the negatives this time around. When I get serious with what my photos, I appreciate the recommendations for Dwaynes and the Darkroom as the reviews on both sound pretty good.

So not to long ago I put up a post as to what to do with my old 35mm cameras, a Minolta 3xi & 9xi. Well after getting a more then a few good suggestions I pulled them down out the closet. I intend to run a few rolls of film through them to see how they stood up to time. For all those who are still into film any suggestions on processing options, I could use the local Walgreens, but I was curious if anyone had any suggestions for labs that still process and print from 35mm.

At this point I'm not about abandon my digital cameras, both point and shoot and DSLR. However as long as there are sources for 35mm film and developing I'm not going to give up my Minolta 35's either.
