Really nice shots here. Did you shoot anything wider of the barn and mountains?

If the card is truly damaged, send it back to Lexar and they will replace it for free.

There's several things you can try. First, if you don't have a flash, get one and get a remote trigger for it as well. This will allow you to make an extreme side light, which will highlight one side of the letters while throwing the other side into shadow, giving you a pretty strong contrast. If this isn't an option, and the light cooperates, shoot either very early in the morning or late in the evening. The next suggestion I would have for you is to play with the contrast in your image editing program. Much of what you're trying to accomplish here is going to be controlled by manipulating the contrast specific to the letters on the stone. Good luck with this project. Sounds very interesting.

I went to Bali for a vacation, and went to a show that was a Balinese opera, where there were characters in elaborate costumes and traditional music. It was really interesting to see and was one of the first things I did in Bali, so it was a good way to set the tone for the rest of the trip. During a brake, one of the musicians gave me a glance that I captured here. The shot was made with a Nikon D2x and a 300mm F2.8 Nikkor lens. Exposed at 1/250th at F4 with an ISO of 100. I also used a flash to fill the camera right side of his face. The background, overhead and camera left were white plastic tarps, so there was a really nice quality to the light- like big soft boxes. Anyway, one of my favorite shots from Bali. BTW, if you ever come here to China and talk about Bali, they will assume you mean Paris, France, which Bali is the Chinese name for. Instead, you have to say "Bali Island". Bali is part of Indonesia and if you have the time and means, I highly recommend going.

An interesting story about the building with the hole in it. It is owned by the Japanese and is in the shape of a Katana, which is a traditional Japanese sword. The Chinese took offense to this (they generally don't get along well with the Japanese) and built the building that I was standing in, which is in the shape of a traditional Chinese sword and is MUCH taller. One-upmanship.

Yes, from the tallest building on mainland Asia in fact. The observation deck is also the highest in the world and the elevators to get you there are the fastest in the world. Takes 45 seconds to go to the 110th floor. THanks for the comments!

Hello group,

My name is Mark Lent and I am new to this forum. I worked as a photojournalist for nearly 30 years and now teach photography and 3D animation at a university in Suzhou, China called Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, or as we call it, "XJTLU". I also wrote and worked as a moderator for Popular Photography & Imaging as well as the Adorama Learning Center. I shoot with Nikons and have 3 bodies, a bunch of lenses from a 300mm F2.8 to a 14mm F2.8. Anyway, nice to be here.

About the photo... It is a shot of Shanghai, China. I live a scant 25 minute bullet train ride from this location, so go here often. The photo was made in Shanghai Tower on the (I think...) 110th floor with a Nikon N1AW1 mirrorless camera, which is my camera of choice here in China because most Chinese shy away from foreigners with big cameras. And I have found that this is quite capable of capturing some very nice images. The EXIF data says that the exposure was 1/2 second at F4 at 400ISO. The shot was also made in RAW mode and processed via Photoshop cc2018. I didn't have a tripod, so placed the lens directly against the window and prayed. :-)

Let's see... what else? I am a graduate (twice!) of the University of Alabama (Roll Tide!), am married to my spectacular wife Emily, who is Chinese. I have four children, 2 dogs, a cat and the occasional stray who needs a hand. Again, nice to be here and please say hello if you wish. Would love to hear from you.
