Used is probably going to be the best route for me to go. Im undecided about what im willing to spend. I wanted to get opinions before i create a budget for myself

Do you have a photo store near you? I mean a *real* store, with real photographers? That may be your best bet, and chances are they'll have used equipment, too.

If not, try to find a store where you can actually get your hands on several models. You'd be surprised how much ergonomics plays into the final decision.

Finally, you might check out sites like KEH (http://www.keh.com/camera?s=1) that sell used as well as new equipment.

There are at least two "modern" DSLRs which do not deal with video, Sigma and Nikon's new fancy, pseudo retro Df. There are a lot of shooters who would like to see Nikon and/or Canon come out with a full frame DSLR w/o video capability and a lower price for its
omission.

Nikon today announced their new 80-300mm f/3.5-6.3G-ED VR lens, MSRP $899.95

http://www.nikonusa.com/en/Nikon-Products/Product/Camera-Lenses/AF-S-DX-NIKKOR-18-300mm-f%252F3.5-6.3G-ED-VR.html

And my first reaction is, "so what?"

OK, so I just bought my D7100 with two lenses:

AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR
AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR

So now Nikon is offering one lens that does the job of two?

(Edited: Oops, posted in the wrong forum. Is there a way to move this to the "general topics" forum?)

I fail to see your point. I am aware of Nagys past. He is familiar with socialist governments and comes here with the idea of changing us into what he fled. Doesn't make sense.

I do not dislike Nagy. I enjoy sparing with him. I do dislike his insulting and condescending manner. He exudes and attitude that we are all far beneath his level and that is not so.

You put it far better than I.

Well, I've enjoyed about as much of this thread as I can stand. All this banter isn't going to change things one whit. I'm going back to the photo gallery and photo analysis forums, which is why I'm here in the first place.

Very nice shot! Although I've never been, I believe Banff is like Bryce Canyon: One is almost guaranteed to get a good photo there! :)

I'll put my vote in for #3. It seems a touch "warmer" than the others.

I'm still not sure about the inclusion of the mossy foreground. It adds perspective to the shot, but I'm not sure it adds anything else.

"My, how stupid of you!" Again you resort to condescension and insult. I know you are smarter than that.

No, I am not suggesting that anyone who dislikes the system should leave. I am suggesting that the direction you want to change to is wrong for this country. If you love socialism then it would be best for you to leave. You are not suggesting changes you are denigrating the system and insulting any one and every one that disagrees with you. Hardly a productive way to go.

We need change in our healthcare system. There are more productive ways to accomplish that than government take over. Our government for the past several decades has demonstrated no ability to manage any system in a business like manner. Every program they control and I include Social Security, Medicare, immigration, and balance of trade they have screwed up. If they cannot get a web site to function on a three year ramp up and over six billion dollars why would anyone trust them with their healthcare? We have a government of professional politicians with little expertise in anything. That is where the change needs to begin.
"My, how stupid of you!" Again you resor... (show quote)

I note with not a little irony, that PNagy is a Hungarian name. I would suggest that folks do a little historical research into the Hungarian uprising of 1956.

The failure of the USA to come to their aid resulted in another 30+ years of Soviet domination, imprisonment for many, and the refuge of the Catholic prelate in the American Embassy until 1971.

When I first came to this site a couple of weeks ago, I had just returned from a trip to Iceland (highly recommended; a photographer's dream!).

Iceland is a socialist welfare state: everyone gets a free education and free medical care.

It's also why a bowl of soup costs $13 and there's a 15% VAT (value-added tax).

There's always a trade-off. As one of my favorite authors, Larry Niven, often states: TANSTAAFL ("There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch" ).

in over 30 years of nursing, I have seen a decline which in my opinion has a lot to do with government meddling.

BINGO!

I recently heard that the Huffington Post was bemoaning the fact that Congress has been "inactive." That they had passed fewer laws than any other Congress in recent history.

To me, a Congress that isn't passing laws is the most effective. I'm a firm believer in the first five words of the First Amendment:
The U. S. Constitution wrote:
Congress shall make no law

What's worse, is that Congress never goes back and repeals any laws it passes. It simply creates new ones -- that often contradict the laws they are intended to remedy.

I believe Ronald Reagan once said that "a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth!"

Nice shots. Having been to the Albuquerque Hot Air Balloon Festival, I really enjoy the "mass ascension."

One thing you might consider is adding something known to the photo (like a person) to give some perspective. These things are much larger than they appear in your shots.

It looks like I may have to open my wallet one more time... ;-)

The first shot is the original, the second my dabbling with Lightroom 5.

This was taken in Zion National Park. There are a lot of extreme colors here; lots of red sandstone, greenery, and the sun has to make its way past the canyon walls. So, the sun is pretty blown out (I haven't found a way to correct that, yet), and I'm still trying to get the right balance in the colors.

Here's a rendering using GraphicConverter 9 (Mac).

I think I like the Lightroom version better. LR 5 seems a bit easier to use than GC, too.

I love Zion National Park! Of the three in the "circle" (Zion, Bryce, Grand Canyon North Rim), I think I like Zion the best. My acrophobia (and a leg problem) prevent me from hiking up to Angel's Landing, so it's nice to see the view from someone else's eye. :)

Unlike the other canyons, Zion is approached from the bottom, looking up . I have some pics I took at the Temple of Sinawava (the north end of the scenic drive and the entrance to The Narrows).

Thanks for the great shots and terrific memories!

Very nice! As a "local," I'd also suggest going to Kensington, Maryland and view/shoot the cherry blossoms there. Alas, the crowds have found the place, so it too, will be a zoo after a while.
