I love my Peak Design carbon fibre tripod. Intelligent design, it's light, stores to a small form factor and is very stable.

I agree. Easy to carry on hikes.

I know folks personally who received their Z8 body from B&H two days after release date, May 25 (I think). They pre-ordered a couple weeks before release date. The Z8 auto-focus options are awesome!

You bought a discontinued, end-of-the-line DSLR in 2023. Saving nearly $400 for an unused model, rather than $400 on an used specimen of the camera body. If you'd bought used, you'd have the same repair issues, paying for any future issue out of pocket, assuming the UK policy differs on grey-market.

Only you can judge your decision. But, the issue isn't grey-market, rather, why buy such an old product "new" in 2023? The risk is low that the camera will ever have a problem while you own the body.

There was another thread yesterday about how long Canon (and others) will support any camera body. That support is not unlimited, and relatively short for all the bodies other than their top of the top-tier. Whether grey or not, after a few years, now especially for DSLRs, a repair isn't going to be an option.
You bought a discontinued, end-of-the-line DSLR in... (show quote)

Yup, words of wisdom. I love my D850 and am keeping it, knowing some time in near-future needed repair might not be available.

Hi
I will be flying to Las Vegas next week ,carrying my D800 DSLR
Not sure if I can carry the camera batteries as carry on or should I put in the suitcase that I will be checking in as luggage. It's United to LV then Spirit return to EWR
Thanks
Sastry Karra

Not allowed in checked luggage. I’ve had no trouble with any lithium batteries, in-camera or extras, in carry-on backpacks, etc., domestically or internationally. Traveled internationally as recently as Feb 2023.

I use my Z6 II + Z 24-120mm f/4 S just about everyday, indoors and outdoors. I nearly always crop during PP and am satisfied with its resolution. My only advice is if buying Z lenses, buy only the S versions. My eyes and brain see a difference in color and sharpness.

I am looking at a Z 24-70 2.8 lens from Nikon and wanted to get your thoughts on buying refurbished. I have never bought any items that were refurbished and would like some input whether positive or negative. Thanks, Grandpaw

The Z 24-70 2.8 S is a very nice lens that stays attached to my Z 7 II. I didn’t buy that lens refurbished, but I’ve bought several refurbished lenses and bodies over the the years directly from Nikon USA. Always looked and functioned like new. The box is white and very different from original.

I also have a Peak Design Slide Lite. While you can certainly use it as a neck strap, it was primarily designed as a cross body sliding strap.

Peak Design. I really like their anchors. The anchors easily click into the strap and they are easy to remove with a little pressure at the anchor.

👍👌👊

I use the Peak Design Clutch (hand strap) and Slide Lite (neck strap) on my D850 and Z7 II. Comfortable and takes seconds to switch them.

I wouldn't worry about the cellphone replacing "real" cameras. After all, look at all the claims that have been made that the horseless carriage would replace the horse. Like that could ever happen!
Gotta go! Have to drive over to the farm supply to get grain for the horses.

Hi DJ,
Thanks, this is where I got stuck, the manual does not explain this step at all, nor does the videos tutorials.
So you have solved my problem.
Thanks again.

We all get stuck sometimes. Enjoy your photography!

I do my fair share of traveling and am guessing it’s 90% Smart Phones vs. DSLR’s, Mirrorless, etc. from my observations. Sometimes I feel a little out of place lugging a tripod and everyone else has a phone in their hands for the same shot Lol! I’m pushing 70 and am amazed at this change! All my friends under 60 have only Smart Phones. One day I think they will figure out a way to increase the focal length using AI. Can’t wait!

I carry one of my cameras and my iPhone 14 Pro Max together when traveling or walking around town. Sometimes a photographical event happens so quickly I do a quick draw of the iPhone and take the shot. Other times I take a shot of a scene with both, a camera RAW file to edit later on Lr and one iPhone photo for a quick in-phone edit and then to share with family and friends. Sometimes, an iPhone is less intrusive and intimidating with certain people present. At home with my grandson and cats, an adorable scene can happen so quickly I only have time to quick-draw my iPhone! I prefer one of my cameras, but I use both.

An interesting discussion, and I’ve learned quite a bit.

In watching a martial artist move, listening to a classical guitarist or pianist, or looking at a beautiful photograph, the artists reveal where their intention and focus are. We all watch, look and listen to artists and enjoy their work for different reasons. Without going too deeply into the weeds (I’m a neuro-psychiatrist), when we approach a task “intellectually” and focus on precision we usually operate in the beta-brainwave frequency state, and when we approach a task “intuitively” with a focus on beauty we usually operate in the alpha range, 8-12 Hz.

The human brain cannot be in two states simultaneously; there is no multitasking here. In martial arts, you will get hit every time if you are in the “intellectual” brainwave frequencies because your senses are blind to “the feeling” immediately preceding an attack. I’ve attended master classes where the master teacher struggles to get the university-professor musicians “out of their heads” so they can appreciate what the composer intended at that time in his life.

Obviously, photographers enjoy their own work for different reasons and will appeal to others who view their work based on where the viewer’s and photographer’s intention and focus are. When you’re in one brainwave state or another, there will be things directly in front of you that cannot be experienced by your senses …

I have the 24-70F4 and the 24-200Z lens and was wondering if adding the 24-120 would be worth the money. Your thoughts and ideas on this would be appreciated.

The Z 24-120 f4 S may be redundant but it is an S lens, which is supposed to be among Nikon’s best Z lenses. I like mine for travel.
