Camera Dilemma .
Got a camera from Amazon ( via third party seller ) .. was £300 ($372) cheaper than normal .. supposed to get a warranty card with it , contacted seller who said they dont have one but they will guarantee it themselves for 2 years ... Called Nikon who looked up the serial number and said it was an import from Asia ( grey Import ) so not covered by Nikon UK or EU for guarantee ... Mmm .. do I keep it and save £300 or send it back for refund ? Risk it for a biscuit ? Its a New Camera D7500 by the way not used ..

I never buy grey, having said that, did seller disclose it was grey before you bought it? However, for £300, I don’t think it matters much. Not minimizing the value if £300, if it’s new, it will probably work fine. Did it come with battery and charger? If so, how old is the battery?

Yes it's new with Battery and charger and all other accessories .
The only abnormality I noticed was that the instruction book had a torn cover .

Camera working fine so far 9 only had it 5 days .

Send it back. You would “probably” have no problem with it. But I would hate to allow the reseller to get away with fraud. The first two years might be fine, and the seller’s warranty might be satisfactory, but selling the camera later without the possibility of local repair would require some deep discounts on your end.

OK. In the US, Nikon won’t service a grey market camera even for a fee.

You bought a discontinued, end-of-the-line DSLR in 2023. Saving nearly $400 for an unused model, rather than $400 on an used specimen of the camera body. If you'd bought used, you'd have the same repair issues, paying for any future issue out of pocket, assuming the UK policy differs on grey-market.

Only you can judge your decision. But, the issue isn't grey-market, rather, why buy such an old product "new" in 2023? The risk is low that the camera will ever have a problem while you own the body.

There was another thread yesterday about how long Canon (and others) will support any camera body. That support is not unlimited, and relatively short for all the bodies other than their top of the top-tier. Whether grey or not, after a few years, now especially for DSLRs, a repair isn't going to be an option.

A new $1200 camera for $400? That's cheaper than a good used one. Being grey doesn't mean cheaper build. You took the risk of paying so low for a good camera, would you feel better paying full price, just because for $800 more there's less risk if something goes wrong? All my Nikons and my friends' Nikons go years with no problems, often bought used. You are a risk-taker or you wouldn't have bought it in the first place, just live with it and enjoy the camera.

If it was not revealed at the beginning that the camera was grey market I would return it on a matter of principle. Otherwise for that price keep it.

A third party warranty is probably worthless. On the other hand, I've never had a need for a camera warranty - since about 1970. I wouldn't worry about a new D7500, but getting software updates might be a concern. As a last resort, you could send it to Nikon Japan for a repair.

A gray market is 99% same as a us sold model . I spent my life fixing a euro brand luxury car .in the 70 s , it was considerably cheaper to bypass the us dealers of that brand and get your car from europe . Same car , the way the USA dealers went about that , is that they refused to work on those cars .So in a way it kept us independents busy . So see its just not Nikon . Its a little like mafia , pay us or else .

Nope. Nikon won't touch it at all, nor will they sell parts to an independent repair facility.

Mercedes or Volvo, right? We almost went to Sweden to buy a Volvo, but we decided to buy one locally.
