Thanks Jerry, yes, I focused on the part of the feeder that the Hummingbird was feeding on.

The part that is in focus is just the bottom edge of the front feeding rose. The DOF is either very narrow or all in front of the feeder. You need to focus more accurately at that aperture or stop down more. Perhaps the lens needs calibrating.

Excellent shot Brian. Big problem in Florida.
Thanks, Doc. We have had quite a few palm tree deaths in our village. The town says they have no money for treatment. How do you protect your palms in Florida?

Yes, these Palm Weevils are so destructive of Palm trees but you did get a nice shot of it so your foot will be ready when next you see one. Welcome, I lived in Spain for 10 years but am now back in England.
I'll keep my eyes open now, it was walking towards my wife's potted sago palm when I picked it up.

My first shot at live macro-photography. An interesting visitor on our patio this afternoon. However, I have just been informed that it is a Red Palm Beetle and it destroys palm trees! Perhaps I should not have let it go!
Canon EOS 5DS R + EF 100 f/2.8 L Macro + Speedlight 550 EX processed from RAW in Capture One Pro 10.

Nikon USA sounds more like a franchise than an integral part of Nikon Co Jp.

All my Canon gear is purchased in UK. I live in Spain and get repairs and service done at a Canon service centre in Barcelona, Spain. I have never had a query about where it was purchased. As a Canon CPS Gold Member I get a 3 day turnaround or a loaner. Some stuff was purchased new or used at Canon UK dealers others were purchased from Amazon UK. It seems Nikon's business model is rather different.

Perhaps that's because you are 'equipped' differently!

We get along great despite being equipped differently.

Ahhh.
I'm a from the "Dark Side" (Nikon) so not aware of that issue.
Good luck!

Your input is very much appreciated nevertheless.

With the 622 you should be able to adjust the manual output of the flash from the transmitter on the camera.
No walking away from the subject to fiddle with the back of the flashes when they are in a softbox or up on a high stand.
That's a huge bonus in my book!

Thanks for that. If I read the specs correctly, however, my Speedlight 550EX is one of the old models which have to be set manually anyway using this system.

You need a 622.

I don't need it. I can use what I have manually. I just wanted to be sure that TTL wasn't available on the 603. It would have been a bonus. But thank you for the info.

You are correct. Those transceivers are manual use only, no TTL.

Thanks very much. I can live with that and stop wasting time trying to get them to communicate!
