Travel 30 miles to the east and shoot Munising and the Pictured Rocks area, the most photogenic area per square mile in the U.P. Get a guide book on the Pictured Rocks area.
As a native Yooper(Iron Mountain), I second Fotoartist's suggestion. If time allowed, motoring west thru Ishpeming and up the Keweenah Peninsula as far as Copper Harbor offers many opportunities for Lake Superior and historical viewing.
Can't tarnish Fox News reputation. Roger Ailes and O'reilly took care of that already! Hail to the Bloviaters!!
I had the rare opportunity to view a yellow-billed and a black-billed cuckoo on the same branch at Magee Marsh in NW Ohio, a famous stopover point for warblers during their migration northward across Lake Erie; naturally, no camera or even iphone with me at the time. Just a wonderful memory!

Just found out it's a beaver. It can be hard to tell the difference from a distance but otters have shorter faces and sleek fur.
Yooper2, you "otter" have known better! I always enjoy your photos, and look forward to your future posts.
As I am new to DSLR, I was considering a "bridge" camera; however, a friend had a used Nikon V2 (14.4mp) he had offered me. This mirrorless attracted me, and the same person had a SL1Nikon 70-300mm "CX" lens to match up with the camera. Can any Hoggers offer me an opinion on their experience with this lens? My main interest is with wildlife photos, birding in particular. The D500 and 200-500mm. lens set-up is beyond my affordability.
Jim Bob, those are just stunningly gorgeous shots, never mind DOF; now,if you could duplicate the feat with a pileated WP or two in the wild, that might top that superb set!
I have tracked the complete thread, as I try to do daily on UHH. I found OP's question and MT's response both helpful, and I also thought SharpShooter and Peterff"s positions were very useful and mostly valid. I always like Mark's input humorous posts in the Attic; however, I do disagree when the wishes for more oversight by Admin. are desired. I think they do a decent job of tight-rope walking. Maybe Mark was right in suggesting the Attic as more appropriate for this thread, but I think even that is debatable. Happy health and Holidays to All the members, and thank you for improving my basic understanding of photography on a daily basis.

Interesting, I think those numbers may change sliding over to red as election day gets closer if Trump can avoid doing any more damage. That is a very big "if"! I must admit that I am not very confident in my predictions as I thought there was no way people would be crazy enough to nominate Trump. Had they used their heads we might have been waiting for President Kasich to get sworn in but I guess we will never know.
As an Ohio resident, retired blue-collar worker, I can suggest to you Kasich is not the answer. Moderate, well, that's a relative term. We had to defeat Issue 5 (same anti-worker legislation Scott Walker backed in Wisconsin), and I know Kasich would have signed it into law ASAP. We do have a two billion surplus in our state "rainy day" fund, but thats partly due to stripping state funding for public schools and propping up our mostly underperforming charter schools. so now, local school districts are constantly pushing new or re-extended levies at the general public. As for OP's original question, I am encouraged by the attitudes of millenials and other younger voters. Bernie Sanders tapped into that frustration and I believe different priorities in the future could render the two-party system in it's present form insufficient and anachronistic. Please excuse my long-windedness.

Any recommendations for a high zoom bridge camera with at least 1" sensor? The Panasonic FZ1000 seems like the best for the money. The Sony rx10 zoom is not long enough. Anyone hear of any new larger sensor ones in the pipeline?
I , too, also recommend the Canon G3X. The 600mm. effective focal range and the RAW shooting ability are pluses; however it doesn't come with viewfinder, which can be bothersome on bright, sunny days. The Canon EV1-DC1 electronic viewfinder (approx. 200$) does fit the G3X. As mentioned in another post, it does perform fairly well in low-light. A re-manufactured body can occasionally be found for around 600$. The 1" sensor does make a difference, and a tripod certainly helps at longer ranges.
Thanx photophile for your set of very nice images.
Sandy Ridge is my "home site" for birdwatching. There's a resident pair of Sandhill cranes and a pair of eagles with several years of successful nests. Your photos certainly do the place justice!

I enjoyed the link you supplied. It seems to me that a scenario such as Ryan posed is extremely unlikely and sounds a lot like "chicken little". I enjoy your reparte with the UHH'ers.
Now I would like to read or hear about some plausible explanations for why the universe is not only expanding, but doing so at an accelerated rate. Seems to defy "dark matter" postulations.! The more we learn, it seems, the less we can explain!
