As far as menus the RX iv is not the most user friendly, but once you figure it out you will be amazed of the flexibility it offers. You can setup your own menus adapted to your use and personality. Almost all buttons are configurable and there are 7 memory places to setup for your various photography situations.

I rarely use Canon 7d m2 now. But I have many Canon lenses. Would it be wise to sell them all and buy Sony rx 4 which is bridge camera with small censor? Thank you for your advice.

I switched to RX10 iv from Canon due to weight and complexity of carrying and changing lenses in the field. This is my go anywhere camera and is the one I use mostly when I travel, though I have other cameras. If you don't print large posters, the quality is very good. It is excellent for BIF too.

Thanks for your response.
I am a mirrorless guy.
I need to travel light because of airline limitations in Chile. I intend to use :
1. Sony RX10 iv (24 to 600mm) 20.1 megapixels on 1 inch sensor. ( I had good experience with it in Peru and Patagonia)
2. Sony A7 iii with Sony 35-105 mm lens.

Also have a Circular Polarizer lens for the RX10.
I wonder if I should buy an ND filter?
Anything else you would suggest other than spare batteries and rain covers.

Best,
Nate

Here is my Galapagos experience summary
1. Two cameras a must.
2. Underwater camera if you want underwater pictures (used Olympus Tough 3)
3. Long range lens: I used 150-600mm on an APSC -If you want to catch birds and remote animals.
4. Most of the time 55-210 mm did the job on a Sony A6000.
3. Hard to use a tripod in a group tour. Can use one on a private tour where you have time to setup and wait for the perfect picture.
4. WD wireless hard drive to backup the SD cards.
5. Unless in great physical shape, save weight.
Don't recommend changing lenses out in the field.

Greetings Photographers!
I would appreciate any advice regarding photography in the South Georgia island and the Falkland: Equipment, Lenses, Filters, Techniques?
Also, is a water proof camera backpack a must or a dry sack is enough?
Any ideas appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Nate

I had the same problem. I switched from Canon 7D and 70 D to Sony mirror-less.
For travel I use only one camera the DSC-RX10 IV (24 -600 mm with option to double digitally to 1200) it covers probably 90 % of my needs. I keep the Sony A6000 as backup with only the kit 2 lenses . The RX 10 iv is an amazing camera though not cheap. Only limitations are battery life (so I always carry 2 spares in my pocket just in case), and the menu system is pretty complex but powerful allowing lots of customization.

The only time you will need the 150 -600 is for getting close-ups for birds. For the rest I used a 55-150 with 1.5 crop camera (Sony). Eventually I got tired of carrying the 150-600 so last 3 days I just used the 55-150.
Underwater camera highly recommended

Try Corel Paintshop Pro X9; does everything I need without the high price of PS or LR. You can use it free for some time.

I understand your problem. I experienced the same two years ago in Galapagos while carrying a full backpack with two cameras and multiple lenses and photography stuff. Did you look at Sony DSC RX10MIII? It's a go anywhere camera with a 24 to 600 35 mm equivalent Vario Sonar single lens. It seems to be a fairly good and expensive trade off if you just want to carry one camera that is more than point and shoot. So far I like it. The picture quality is very good within it's limitations. If i'll have time I will post some pictures.

Good luck in your search!
Nate

Buy the Sony a6000. Has a great viewfinder and also the LCD screen can be moved to an angle you can see.

I have been using this program for several years. It is the best for the money unless you have the funds for Photoshop. It has all the features you would need including layers.
It does everything a semi-professional photographer needs.
They also have excellent tutorials on the program and online.
The only dislike (and I can not compare with Photoshop) is that my computer (I have an Intel i7 processor) becomes slower when I open a lot of pictures.

You can get a 30 days free trial and see how you feel about it.
Good luck and happy New Year!

Nathan
