South Georgia Island Photography Advice

Greetings Photographers!
I would appreciate any advice regarding photography in the South Georgia island and the Falkland: Equipment, Lenses, Filters, Techniques?
Also, is a water proof camera backpack a must or a dry sack is enough?
Any ideas appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Nate

A dry sack is enough. I thought they made only rain proof camera bags these days. It rained a little while I was there (south Georgia islands). At the time I used a camcorder.

Spent a week there in 2012 and used a Canon 5D II with a 100-400 for most of my wildlife shots and for landscape shots I used a 16-35 and 24-105. Don't know who you are going with but you will probably be going to shore in a zodiac. I was there in early November and for all but one day was fully suited up in rubber boots, bib, heavy jacket, etc. It was not terribly cold but was nippy at times. I did use a Lowepro slingshot bag to keep the camera and lens dry.

Don't know where you are going first but the Falklands (a year later) was a bit of a disappointment. The wildlife on South Georgia was breathtaking especially in early spring when I went.

Have you asked the tour company? They should know exactly what you will need.

Going there in November too. Thanks for your very useful advice. Going there with One Ocean Expeditions on the Vavilov vessel.

Best time of year to go as the big elephant seals (and penguins) will be numerous.
