You're asking for trouble messing with third party batteries. Stick to the factory supplied parts. Your warranty will still work.

What I did was go to the local print shop and get the manual that's on CD and get it printed out. Now you can read about the camera without setting in front of this damned box..Much better..

Finally bit the bullet and purchased a "real" DSLR.

My parameters were based on-
Budget - didn't have thousands of bucks for this (or even a single thousand)
Sensor size - I wanted the largest sensor I could afford
Viewfinder - HAD to have a good viewfinder

So, all full-frames were too expensive, had to settle on APS-C.
I liked mirrorless models, but mirrorless with good (or any) viewfinders were out of budget.

Several months of research later, I found a terrific deal on a Nikon D5500, direct from Nikon USA with a two-lens kit, $599 - I jumped on it....

Took delivery yesterday, and initially I'm pleased.
It's got a little size and heft to it, and a good hand grip.
Gotta keep in mind, I'm a 70 year old dude who's cranked film since the 1950's, with completely manual cameras. I'm used to holding 5 pounds of glass and steel in front of my face, and I have big hands. So I'm pleased it's not tiny, the shutter has that reassuring SLR clunk.
The EVF is real good, IMO, very usable. Has a good diopter adjustment too.

Then I downloaded the 402-page manual.........seriously ??!!!
Could they make it more complicated you think??
Remember, I'm used to an aperture ring on the lens, shutter speed and ASA dials, and that's it. I never even used a light meter, I knew my film so well I never needed one.

OK, that's the world we live in now. So I'm currently wading through the manual, trying to figure out what all this "stuff" does. I'm sure I'll never use 90% of it, but......
Thankfully there is a full-manual mode as a bail-out for me, should I get frustrated and need a break from it all.

Slapped in a charged battery and a 64 gig chip. Ordered a few (what I feel) necessary filters, a UV for lens protection, a circular polarizer, and (my all-time favorite) an 81B.

Haven't really taken any photos yet, still familiarizing myself, but feeling optimistic.

Wish me luck........I feel like a raw neophyte, despite decades of experience.

Here's the em1ii and 12-40 and 75mm examples...judge for yourself. I have hanging in my house 20 x 30's and 18 x 24's, but have printed 30x40 canvas prints before...and that was with the original EM1. The em1ii is no slouch, despite having a "tiny" sensor.

Stunning photo of surf.

Canon or Nikon are both excellent choices. You might also take a look at the latest Sony, not as many lens choices but a excellent choice as well.

I have a Canon 80D. I have the option to use a Canon macro EF 100mm 1:2.8 USM or a Tamron 16-300mm 3.5-6.3 Di II PZD macro. Which lens would be better to use and would extension tubes help? Would a 50mm lens be better?

Use your feet and a tripod, canon 100 mm macro..

After waiting for over a year & after much research, primarily on UHH, I'm finally able to trade up from a T5i to a 5D Mark IV. My question relates to price. I almost always buy from B&H or Adorama. However, B&H, Canon, Amazon & Adorama list the camera at $3,499. On the other hand two EBay sites list the camara for less. Deals-all-year at $3,074.99 & Buy-direct at $3,224. I don't want to pinch the last penny but a couple of hundred bucks is nothing to sneeze at. Any advice?

It really comes down to how far do you want to stick your neck out for "a couple hundred bucks". I saw one web site advertising the 5dm4 to $2944.00. I wouldn't touch that. I purchased a 6d from Amazon. "new", they couldn't disguise the used camera despite the packaging. Now, I only purchase from Canon, at least they can afford to take something back if I have a problem..

Don't be to harsh. I don't have an artistic bone in my body. When I try to get the image, well lets say I'm usually disappointed. I can't blame it on the camera, just my short comings when it comes to some inane genetic ability that just isn't there. I enjoy the state of the art when it comes to cameras and lenses. I get the best I can afford. They are several levels ahead of my ability to get the image I want. But I can rest on the thought it is me and not the equipment. When I see an image that everybody is OHH'ng over , I wonder how many shots the person took before one was worth showing to the crew here.. I'm done now!
