Look at this Ebay add. Must be a scam...Right, however, look at the sellers feedback rating.
I'm tempted, what do you think?

Might be legit, or it might be a $15.62 learning experience. Unless, of course, what they are really after is your credit card info. Never dealt with E-Bay so I have no idea how closely they monitor such things.

Nice image! I kind of remember when you first introduced your R5. I think you came a 5d variant? Assuming that you had EF lenses and maybe the 24-105 f/4L? What logic did you use in replacing them? I bought the R5 about a year and a half ago. And am starting to look at gradually swapping the EFs for RFs, but seemed wrapped around the axle in picking what order.

I had a 5D before buying an R and then selling that and getting the R5. I had an EF 24-105 f/4 L and a number of other EF lenses. The first lens I replaced was the EF 24-105. If I remember correctly I bought the R as a kit with the RF 24-105 f/4 L, since that is such a handy lens. I had no particular pattern of buying new lenses. If I saw an RF that I liked I would buy it and sell whatever EF lens I had that it would replace. I also went for faster lenses than what most of my EFs were. An RF 85mm f/1.2L, then an RF 50mm f/1.2 L, as well as an RF 16-35mm f/2.8 L and now this 28-70. I kept my EF 100mm f/2.8 L Macro and my EF 100-400 L II. I don't see where there is anything in the RF lineup that is a noticeable improvement over the EF 100-400.
I just sent the RF 50mm f/1.2 and the Macro off to KEH since I just don't use the Macro and in the 50mm range the 28-70 f/2 should do everything I want.
I have been distracted from photography for a while now so I figured a new lens would be a good jump-start. Seems to be working so far!

Just got a Canon RF 28-70mm F/2 L USM lens for on my R5. So far I'm really happy. Produces very clear shots and the F/2 does very well in low light.
This was shot JPEG SOOC while just sitting around. No flash and not great lighting. F/2 at 1/15 sec and ISO 200. Handheld. Not a stabilized lens but the R5's IBIS works well.
Going to shoot basketball next weekend at the local community college. Eager to see how it does compared to the RF 85mm F/1.2 L that I have been using.

UPS says I have a package coming today from Adorama. Since I didn't order anything from them, that was a surprise. Then I realized it's probably a little tripod that I ordered for my son from Amazon. That's happened before with Amazon and Adorama. At least I thought that's what it was. Looking at Amazon, the seller is LPDSelfie. Well, time will tell. Maybe Adorama is sending me a gift for being a good customer over the years.

EDIT: Got it! It's a quart of Chromakey paint, and it's arriving next Friday, not today. I bet you didn't know that Adorama sold paint. B&H sells that paint, too, for $103/gallon, which is less than Amazon charges.

Just be glad the stork didn't get confused and leave you a surprise delivery!

Bingo!!!! Once the ISO is adjusted, you may have to compensate for introduced noise, but ultimately the issue of a 'fast' lens is pretty much moot in the digital world IMO. I have a horribly slow lens (6.3) but when I adjust ISO appropriately, all's well.

Take your 6.3 lens to an indoor basketball game and then tell us how happy you are with it. Slow lenses work just fine in many situations, but if you are shooting action shots, in marginal or even good light, I'll take a fast lens everytime.

I just went to the B&H site, selected a random item and clicked Add To Cart. Went in with no issues. Put it in, took it back out. Everything seems normal. I didn't bother to log in, but that shouldn't make any difference.

This was a very timely and informative subject thread. I just made the decision to switch from my Sony A6400 to a Canon mirrorless. Undecided at this time on which Canon model, but my primary reason for switching is to take advantage of the vast number of EF and EF-S lenses by using the R adapter with the Canon model I choose.

Sony is expanding their line of lenses, but as my interests change, I like to experiment and learn about different lenses. That is becoming expensive with Sony lenses. From my observations, it appears that the number of good-quality used Canon lenses is very large.

I am just now acquainting myself with the Canon world. Is this a correct assumption?

I think you will be happy and with the number of Canon lenses that have been produced you should have no problem finding good used ones. I would stick with retailers like Adorama, B&H, KEH, etc. Their prices are fair and their condition ratings are, if anything conservative. Definitely go with the Canon EF/RF adapter. Aftermarket adapters are of varying quality. Some work great but there have been claims of some producing a loose fit.
Most Canon lenses are very good. Many are excellent. A few are untouchable. There are a few clunkers though so pay attention to reviews. If you are not familiar with designations then "L" is the premium line. Very hard to find an inferior lens there. IS is Image Stabilized. The lens has internal stabilization which will work in conjunction with the in-body stabilization that some of the R series cameras have.
My nephew is in the process of switching to Canon mirrorless. He was a newspaper photographer in the '90's but about 20yrs ago he started a hardwood floor contracting company and photography became a sideline. He was a 100% dedicated Nikon guy. According to him Nikon DSLRs are the cameras of the Gods! Decided to try mirrorless this past summer. Bought a Nikon Z9. Liked it. Then, surprise surprise! He decided to try Canon. Bought an R3 and RF 70-200 f/2.8 L. At first all he would admit to was being quite impressed. That was 6 weeks ago. Last week he mentioned that his 2nd R3 had just arrived, along with a second lens and that he is in the process of selling his Nikon gear. Already got his next lens picked out: an RF 400 f/2.8 L. I would have taken any bet that he would never leave Nikon, especially for Canon, but, apparently pigs have started flying!

I knew I wouldn't since I am so used to the EF lenses. So I got the $99 basic adapter.

Me too. Bought the control ring adapter but never use the ring. Never use the ring on my RF lenses either. Just old habits, I guess.

For casual photography, e.g. snapshots, the cell phone is currently superior to a point n’ shoot camera. However there are physics limitations - Heisenberg uncertainty and the quantum mechanics of photon capture - that will prevent a cell phone camera from surpassing the dedicated camera using the same technology. A current cell phone camera can probably produce images superior to a first generation DSLR camera. It can’t outdo a current DSLR let alone a top mirrorless device.

True, but technology has this rather annoying habit of constantly changing and improving. I have a 2Tb back-up drive that gets lost in my shirt pocket. Not long ago people would have laughed if you said that was possible. Photo technology is going to change. Cameras are going to change. Count on it. Maybe the cellphone camera, or something similar is the future. Maybe not. Whatever is coming next is going to be different then what we have now, and better besides. You can count on that also.

Someone posting suggested we are talking about a Canon mount and that there is a rubber gasket for tightness. I am not familiar with such a mount using a rubber ring. It certainly sounds like the lens has been mounted and dismounted far too many times. Is it used and you just bought it? On another thread invoking places to purchase used equipment---I remarked that a buyer should try not to buy from a pro who uses his equipment daily. I try to have duplicate bodies of camera types I like so I don't have to mount and dismount and wear out both the camera mounts and lens mounts. Most of us use two zoom ranges. Again,, I am not familiar with a mount needing a rubber ring---but maybe that is for camera use in the pouring rain? But who would do that anyway? Maybe the contributor here on UHH who goes by the handle---Canon will comment?------------------P.S.-----if the lens is used and not such an outlay---the only solution is to buy another one and use the best mount of the two.

I mentioned the seal ring on some Canon lenses. Primarily the L series which is Canon's premium line of lenses. The ring is around the outer edge of the lens mount and provides a weather seal. Professionals often are out in the rain, and even amateurs at times. I got caught in the rain not long ago and it was nice to know that my R5 and L lens are quite resistent to moisture. I stated that the ring may provide some snugness, but, probably little if any. Never hurts to check all components though when you have a mystery problem. The OP found his problem. The four screws on the mount were loose. Simple fix.
