I took an 18-200 and a 50 to Iceland. Worked well for me.
It depends on your needs and desires...
What you think you may be shooting and your interests.

Hi

I am off to Iceland next year. Do you think it is worth my taking a 10-20mm uwa for my APSc as well as 17-70 and 55-300mm? It is hard to gauge from published pics as to how difficult some of the scenary and waterfall shots are?

thanks

Hoe did you manage to get shots free of the crowds? I especially "love "those who drape themselves over the place so that they can spend minutes having their photo taken by their entire travel group, one at a time.

If you don't understand the question, don't waste my time with a stupid reply...I take it you don't watch the nightly news...there have been several cars exploding in various countries around the world and even on cargo ships. We've had a lot of electric scooters burst into flames here as well...even a friends electric wheelchair...

good response

I'm hoping some of you tech types might be able to help me. One of the remote keys for my 2022 Honda CR-V just stopped working a couple of days ago. I've replaced the battery with a new one, but it still doesn't work. It hasn't been dropped or immersed, and is seldom used. The local dealer's parts department tells me that these keys "don't just lose programming." Three local locksmiths have no other ideas than replacing the key. I'm still hoping to avoid that. Any ideas? TIA!

My wife lost a CRV key a few years ago and I was able to get it "cloned " at a Mister Minit stall ( they do shoe repairs , watch batteries, door openers etc ). Two weeks alter we found the original.

Not quite the same situation but I recently put my newer CRV key through the washing machine. It works fine and did not even short out the battery! You win some and lose some.

Interesting that one possible cause of the problem you suggest is an upgrade to Windows Photo. I think that MS fiddles regularly with that software. MS has certainly changed Photos from W10 to W11. The W 10 version has a feature that I like which has been removed with W11. If you edit a jpeg in W10 the edited version is saved with a (2) suffix and is easily identified. The W11 version does not do that and the edited pic needs to be renamed. It is a pain and it is why I have kept W10 on one of my laptops- a Dell which has no problems in reading cards.

My wife and I were in Iceland in late August last year and we had photo gloves and found them nice to have when you needed them which was about four times in two weeks, especially on the whale watching ship. Layers always and as someone said rain pants and top (we used golf gear and worked great) plus puff vests and a water proof jacket plus a rain shell. Rain lens sleeves for your photo gear especially around waterfalls even if your photo gear is weather sealed. We read not to wear jeans but the rain pants were almost always in use so we never had a problem. Have a great trip and if you have time think about extending to the magical Faroe Islands which are a short flight away, five days will do it.

Thanks

we are doing a cruise around north of Iceland, then to the Faroes, Shetlands and back to Reykjavík. After that we do 7 days on land around the southern areas of Iceland. We than fly to Glasgow for a week in west Scotland-hence the concern around the cold and wet.

Thanks to all. More work needed on my part to source gloves I think.

I am planning a trip to Iceland and Scotland, boat and land, in May-June next year and am keen to take many photos. The weather is likely to be anything. Coming from a sub-tropical climate I do not have any experience with cold weather gloves. I would welcome comment or recommendations especially around whether the gloves which have an opening section that exposes fingers for photography (photographer's gloves ) are useful. The internet is full of options!

Thanks

Nice shots from a bus. I always seem to get reflections. Did you use a rubber lens hood?

No, I've not been. But friends have. They have used ultrawide lenses primarily for the Northern Lights. The aurora are mostly a winter phenomenon. Don't know how visible they will be in May.

The OP tells us that a trip to Iceland is driving this lens. I infer from that , and from the statement that low light situations are involved, that the Northern Lights are a key target here. F/2.8 seems important. Filters do not.

I am planning to visit Iceland next may and am curious what is driving your need for a wide or ultra wide lens. Has someone you know been and advised you?

Wow. We are just booking a trip to Iceland for next May. I hope I can achieve as good a set of pics as yours.
