no flash just a carefully chosen spot with a sun beam through the trees and an assistant blowing bubbles up wind. Easy but carefully thought out to choose the right background

well the first photo I had to respond to , fabulous, love it, love the persons reflection on the wet rock. Yes the sky does look "other worldly, but guess that's the light from the lightening effect on the clouds.
Love Moab too great place for photographers

Centre pole use is never a good idea, your head is great aand an L bracket does keet the weight over the tripod center not hanging of one side so reaally helpsas for extraa height if you can afford it aa RRS tripod might fit your needs, good luck

I was a professional in Composites (carbon/Glass/Aramid etc for most of my working life dealing with many Aerospace, F1, wind turbines, etc companies worldwide,. I have a Benro carbon tripod and an Induro carbon Monopod the quality is as good as any I have ever seen . Now retired so no commercial tie into these products or companies,

plenty of top line authors books now out as Ebooks and normally all cheaper than paper books certainly on amazon, and just as many spelling mistakes on paper as in Ebooks

plenty of places to get E books cheap if not free, Amazon always have great bargains if you look. Choose them at leisure from home, vastly better and bigger choice, pity UK government add VAT to Ebooks, but I am more than happy with them

I was looking at tripods in my local camera store recently. I was looking for something between my light travel tripod and my hulking 30 year old 'parking lot' tripod. I was all gung-ho to go for a carbon fiber model (partly for the weight and i suppose partly because they seem to be the 'in' thing). The sales manager advised that carbon fiber is not as robust as aluminum. He cautioned me that CF tripods shouldn't be left in a hot car for long periods - I leave my tripod in the car all the time. Also that they can become brittle in cold weather. I figured he must be reasonably honest since it was going to result in a smaller sale for him.

Any idea how cold an aircraft wing gets or how hot stuck on an airport runway in Saudi Arabia, Most are now getting made in Carbon fiber, add to which the carbon advantage is not just weight it is strength to weight ratio and the ability to reduce vibrations, your salesman was just pushing an item not selling very well

Your noticeable distortion sounds like the design of the lens. It is not problem, but a fact of the difference between a rectilinear and curvilinear wide angle lens design. Look it up on "Wikipedia". Overlook the normal "BS" from many "Hogs". All the Best, Don Gorzek, Professional Photographer since 1964.

How can noticeably distorted head shapes be "not a problem" I am sure anyone I photographed and offered them a distorted head shape would be upset and consider it a major problem, I am also pretty certain this noticeable distortion is not standard on this lens I know several professional photographers using it with no problem or distortion of a noticeable amount
