Reading the article, it becomes clear that she uses natural light.

For detailed answers, you would need to ask the photographer those questions, only he/she is able to answer! I think there was just a little bit of PS involved in the umbrella image, just the usual black and white point adjustments and maybe just a hint of enhancing the air bubbles, other than that, the photographer did everything in-camera, using flash and a well thought out composition! A really nice image!!

Natural light. My guess would be the girls are standing in a spot of sunlight that is shining through surrounding trees.

I agree, light through a gap in the leaves from the right rear. Plus the rest is getting good light from an open sky.

One thing that is interesting is that the out of focus trees in back ground suggests a large aperture (shallow DOF) yet the bubbles in foreground are all in focus.

They are also much alike, that part could be PS or a ton of good luck.

Could this be an overlay on top of the picture?

It i s interesting how much goes into a picture,,,I don't think is luck, I think the photographer knows what she is doing....among all of us, we should be able to figure out what it took to end up with a picture like this...

No led lights.

It is natural.

As to the bubbles either a light machine, folks blowing, or a composite.

Anything you'll read here is a guess. So my guess is late afternoon "golden hour" light, with some filtering through the trees, and just skylight, possibly augmented with a large reflector, 4'x8' to provide that lovely soft light.

You'll see a lot of that light quality here:

He will also mix ambient light with with gelled-to-match monolight or speedlight. But large DIY reflectors will give you a gorgeous light quality.
