I see there was an old thread when this lens came out, but nothing since. I'm currently using a 70-200 f2.8 for youth soccer games and would like something with a little more reach so I'm not cropping as much. Any feedback would be appreciated. *burp* excuse me - feeling a bit of GAS

I used the 120-300 f/2.8 HSM lens for shooting wild life and liked everything about it except that 300 m didn't get me close enough. Loved the f/2.8 as I could shoOt at a relatively fast shutter speed in low light. It is HEAVY/11 Tried also the Sigma 1.4 extender YES and the 2X NO. Try a mono pod for sports shooting Good Luck

Located on a cinderblock wall in Colorado City, CO. Felt you'd appreciate.

Very COOL. If like most st. ART it'll be painted over by some other artist in a week or so. In this case that's a real shame. Tell the artist to come to Missoula. Is it legal in Colo City?. I went to school in the Springs for 4 years. Where is Colorado City? Never heard of it. Is it relatively new? Anyways, Great paintings

Definitely too close, Robin! Are they nuts?? Very nice photos!

Thanks for looking Sue. Don't think wild gets translated into anything in their vocab. It's incredible how frequently they crowed the animals, also scary.

Is it just my eyes, or does it seem that all the people in the photos aren't "locals?"

We see things the same way. Such a high proportion of people from that part of the world get involved in these situations Don't think they understand the term Wild Animal Over the last few years I've seen them time and time again get way too close

I don't know, Robin, but perhaps you've been a tad unfair here. Although the people in the photo might still be a bit too close for comfort, the distances in your images strike me as more than a little compressed . . . the result of using a long lens that leads to the conclusion, directly opposite that of your car's side-door mirrors, that distances here are greater than they appear . . . including the distance between the people and the bison. Just sayin'. . . .

What you are saying about distances being compressed in a telefoto are no doubt true, BUT I've been watching these activities for years and would not have taken the picture had they no doubt been WAY TOO close in the first place I didn't take it with the idea of putting it on UHH Didn't even know UHH at the time.

I was at Yellowstone a little over a year ago, and I was surprised at the way people disregarded fences and warning signs. Even without signs, common sense should always be the first rule of the day.

Don't want to appear stupid, but may I ask why you need his okay?

Rich

This is his blog. In my book it's just common courtesy We don't need permission to put up a written comment, but pictures are a bit more powerful than the written word, as they say, one pic is equal to ....Why don't you set up a blog and I'll send then Have 3 or 4. Taken .in the Gibbon Meadows

I think the second shot is by far the best of the group for various reasons. I notice that you tend to select an aperture fairly wide open and an extremely fast shutter speed. I would suggest choosing a smaller f-stop (f8 for instance). Your shutter will have to slow down but you will find that it is still fast enough. There is no right/wrong ... this works for me.

Howard, many thanks for looking and commenting. What shutter speed do you suggest?
