I think the second shot is by far the best of the group for various reasons. I notice that you tend to select an aperture fairly wide open and an extremely fast shutter speed. I would suggest choosing a smaller f-stop (f8 for instance). Your shutter will have to slow down but you will find that it is still fast enough. There is no right/wrong ... this works for me.

Howard, many thanks for looking and commenting. What shutter speed do you suggest?

I use 1/800th and f9 in manual mode and auto iso. Its fast enough to stop most action but may leave wing tips blurred giving an impression of motion which is nice. Spot metering and continuous AF for bifs. I generally find I need to bump up exposure compensation anywhere from +.3 to +1.0 depending on the sky. White , brighter needs more compensation. Bob

Most of the time, I get away with 1/500th. Faster won't hurt but do try to use a smaller f-stop. I agree with BobR about the Exp. Comp. I generally use between +1 / +2 when shooting against the sky. These are all just numbers until you see what works for you. After your next shoot, pick out the ones you like and check the details. Decide if the settings can be further adjusted. Based upon the colors of your skies, I'm GUESSING you're having exposure problems. Make some changes ... see what happens. Good luck.
