you couldn't be more correct in saying that going to b and h would be a great idea..being from NYC myself i can most certainly agree with their expertise in helping pick out the best camera for anyone..some models are displayed for the customer to try out but going on a line to a representative who will patiently help and explain any camera to someone new to the photography world is priceless.

I second looking at Macphun's suite of applications. Lightroom is a standalone product that is not subscription based (YAY!) but I personally despise the interface. Photoshop is (a fantastic fantastic product that i adore) a subscription-based model (now) which Adobe has done to milk it's customers pockets. Everyone has the right to make a living , but as someone who is an enthusiast, not a pro, dropping that cash is a significant investment, one that many can't afford to make. And depending upon how deeply you need to be working, if you are a Mac user, Apple Photos has a lot of the code from Aperture under it's hood.
I second looking at Macphun's suite of application... (show quote)

hi ..ive been using Aperture for a long time and hate to give it up..i pray that they bring it back new and improved..eventually the Aperture 3 program I've been using will crap out..i did not like lightroom..maybe I'm one of the very few who don't like it..i do like Affinity by apple ..it is a bit easier to use than elements.

i have 2 d7000 bodies that have just recently been cleaned and photo counted that i have laying around..i thought about selling since i had upgraded to the d7100 and a full frame d810.these two i use exclusively...long ago i had purchased a d700 that i just took out of the moth balls so to speak..so here is what I'm doing with all of them so far..i was going to sell the two d7000s but since the count was so low i decided to hold on to them..was told that selling them wouldn't be worth it..so not sure what to do just yet..the surprise of taking out the old d700 was that even with the 12 pixels i found that the photos were so awesome that this will be my back up camera for my d810 full frame..and the d7000s will be my backup for the d7100..
you just never know when you may need a back up or maybe another fellow photographer friend may want to work with you and can use your backup .which happened to me a few months ago on a job..his crapped out and good thing i had the extras..i say keep it as a back up cameras are not cheap ..upgrade but rotate them all ..i put lenses an them so i don't have to switch..ultimately it is up to you ..but i find myself keeping everything ..haven't had the need to purchase anything for a long while now..

You're not getting the point, Kat. The scientific explanation is that they are ghosts!

let me get this straight..you want to catch ghosts in your camera?? ..anyway ..i was once at my step sons home and they swore that they had a ghost in their home..so i gladly took some photos for them...and yes..there were little tiny objects and orbits in some of my photos..i told them to look closely ..the ones i used a flash had ghosts..the ones i didn't use the flash didn't have any..result..what you see is reflections of dust particles and possibly tiny gnats or bugs..that the eye can't see..personally i don't believe in ghosts..there is always a scientific explanation for this stuff..have fun with the concept ..it is an entertaining conversation..

i brought my two cameras into nikon itself in new york and they shipped them out to a third party be cleaned etc. it takes longer and costs more .won't make that mistake again...they only repair or clean professional Nikons now...go on line and search for a local authorized dealer near you..they should be able to honor the warranty ..or you can call nikon and let them tell you where you can bring your camera..

i say the same thing to anyone who asks this question..you need to go to the store and look carefully at each camera..hold it ..look where the controls are ..what best suits your needs...i love Nikons..i love the look of the camera..i love the controls..etc...you need to do some research..it is a personal preference..both are great cameras..good luck choosing..and enjoy whatever you decide on..
