I am getting a 50mm lens to use with my Canon 80D. My other lenses are 18-135mm stm, 100-400mmLseries lens. Where can I expect to use the 50mm lens?

Nowhere since you do not say anything about the lens and why you want it.

And i am not being sarcastic!!! Maybe I am now...

The 50mm lens gives you the natural perspective that you see. Other lenses create a distorted (telescopic or micro) view of what you see.

Well he has a zoom that give him that point of view so what is the point for him???

You are somewhat right otherwise. (the 'natural perspective' is not quite 50mm but generally accepted as 'definition' same as the 1/3~2/3 distribution of a dof from the plane of focus... Close but no cigar.

The 50 is a short telephoto on your camera.
Some use it for portraits, and using it with the wide aperture yours probably has will allow you to throw the background way out of focus, to help separate your subject.

You have not told us the aperture of the lens you are buying. Since your zoom covers that focal length, the fifty will only be useful if it is a lot faster than the zoom. A fast fifty is great both for low light and for limiting depth of field. Note, too, that fifty is not the "normal" focal length on a crop camera. Thirty five is more like it.

Besides being a bit faster than your zoom lens at that focal length, the 50mm is may be a bit sharper (when you look really closely) than the zoom. It is definitely more convenient to carry around on the camera.

If it's a fast 50mm then the shallow depth of field and light sensitivity wide open are the reasons for the lens. I recently bought a used Nikkor FX f1.2 50mm on ebay and it has become my favorite lens. Even though it's manual focus, I up the magnifier on the live view to the max and can focus pretty quickly. It's not for action shots, but great for everything else.

50mm used to be the lens that came on a camera new. The user either knew how and where to use it or they quickly learned. Basically, the 50mm lens is the lens you don't really need. Put it on your camera and forget about it. It can be used ANYWHERE except for a portrait of your mother-in-law's nose. Seriously, DO NOT use it for close-up portraits, but anything else is fair target. 50mm is the approximation of normal vision of a human. That is the generally accepted reason for the 50mm to be the std. lens in an earlier era. With the high optical quality of today's zooms the mid-primes are semi-neglected. Hence, you, and many other photographers know nothing about 35mm thru 50mm lenses. One of the finest lenses ever made is the Canon 50mm f/1.0. Very expensive on today's market if one is even available. An entire generation of professional photographers idolized this lens. Getting a copy of the 50mm lens may be the best thing you ever did for your photographic talents. After shooting the two lenses you have the concept of zooming with your feet will definitely be different. Hope you enjoy the experience. Please share some shots when you feel comfortable doing so.

Nifty fifty, you'll shoot the neighbors dogs, kids, house, inside and out, hills ,valleys, hot chick on the beach, bugs, frogs, toads, horses, cars, if it moves you'll shoot it, if it doesnt move you'll shoot it. Then one day you'll get GAS and buy a 150-600mm and the nifty fifty will move to a drawer and you'll then start shooting birds, ok enough,

I forgot to mention that it is a f1.8 STM lens. So I guess it will have good low light capabilities.
THANKS FOR ALL THE QUICK AND GREAT REPLIES.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL.

When looking for a 50mm fixed focal length lens that will be used, it is very important to consider the price relative to alternatives which accomplish the same task. With each lens, including this one, as well as with your camera an other gear you will receive several manuals and other bits of paper. Stack the papers on your desk and use the lens to hold them down. That is its best purpose.

Note that a rock from the back yard has a lower initial cost but requires more time invested in cleaning.
