^ Today? That would be a month's job for me! I'm still doing it with scanned slides from the 70's to the 90's!

I have the same problem. I shoot wildlife on auto a lot and will end up with 50 similar shots. Disk space is cheap so I usually keep all the ones that are in focus in case I decide a different one is better later. Also cards are pretty cheap now so if I travel and get photos at a place I am not likely to go again, I keep the original card as a backup as well.

I went with 28, 50 and 300 primes with a 2x teleconverter and a 75 to 200 zoom. Pretty much covered everything but sometimes I wished for even more reach. That was with 35mm film camera bodies. Looking forward to going back with a big zoom bridge camera.

^ So if the majority of a non-professional's photo editing can be Lightroom and if it's easier to learn that PS...and if one does not want to subscribe to a monthly paid product should one try a one time purchase of Lightroom 6? Or would a cheaper purchase of Elements suffice...

I don't want to pay for PhotoShop, so I'm going to download GIMP and see how that works. I tried to use PhotoShop in the 1990's without much success. It is not intuitively obvious. I even took a course in it.

In my opinion, Gimp is even harder. I've watched many tutorials read much help on Gimp and still can't even get off the starting block. Some of us need a good editor with a simple user interface or guided interface. Does that exist?

Have you seen the cameras that B&H lists as point and shoot?
I don't think the limited functions of film point and shoots exist in todays digital world. As technology progresses so does the way we define those advances.

Yes indeed, the Sony RX10 IV is considered a point and shoot. It has 90% of the functionality of a DSLR. I think almost any camera without interchangeable lens capability is considered a point and shoot nowadays.

This new release from Canon looks interesting for those who want good image quality in a smaller, easier to use package...

Thanks David for your answer about the fall colors. I've been up there this time of year for the last 3 years and it's been great. I suspected there may be a problem this year because of weather conditions and the recent storm in the gulf that was said to have an effect on the mountains. Oh, well, it always worth a trip for the waterfalls alone!

I've owned the RX10 1 since it was released in 2014. I've used it daily since I got it and love the results. I shoot a lot of city, landscape, general wildlife and bird shots so the only thing it lacked was a longer zoom. I pre-ordered the RX10 IV to get the longer zoom and phase detect focusing for moving birds. I can't wait for it to arrive! I was going to order the RX10 III a while ago but read about focusing problems for moving subjects at long zoom. It seems Sony read those reviews too and have responded by fixing that in the IV.

Hi David, Welcome to the forum. If your introduction title and screen name indicate where you live I'd like to ask you a question. How are the fall colors progressing in the mountains. I live a couple of hours away and was thinking of making a photo day trip this week.

I use an Ape case messenger bag. It's light, comfortable and meets your needs. They come in different sizes depending on how much gear you need to carry and they are a great deal for a low price.

You need at least one water resistant camera in your arsenal. I spent a week in New York City when it rained 90% of the time and I still got hundreds of good shots with my Sony RX10. Never covered it or tried to hold an umbrella in one hand while taking shots with the camera in the other. Just let it rain on the camera and took along a towel and lens cloth to dry in occasionally. No problem. Sony's waterproofing worked great. I didn't need the lens hood to block refraction with no sun but I found that it does a decent job of keeping the rain off the lens too unless you're pointed up.
