I too thank you for your kind words. I served in Viet Nam and am now classified as a disabled vet. I was and remain dismayed at the treatment we received upon our return from Viet Nam.
I take the nation's response to the returning near East vets as a recognition, perhaps subliminal, and apology for the way they treated us Viet Nam vets; an attempt to make up for past sins and to avoid a repeat of those sins. I choose to accept that apology and I applaud the nation for the way they are now treating returning vets.
My scanner is working now. I stumbled upon the button that needed to be pushed while perusing "all aps". It seems a non-intuitive place to put such a button and there was no indication that such a button push was required. Nevertheless, I am pleased to report that it is working now.

Thanks for the suggestion. Yes I did download the latest driver from the Canon website although it did not mention Win10. It did not help. I will try again in a few days.
I have a somewhat related glitch with Win 10 re connecting to my all-in-one Canon printer/scanner/fax. I can print but cannot scan. And I don't ever use the fax.
My old Win 7 computer died and I bought a new Win 8.1 computer days before the Win 10 release. Then I promptly upgraded to Win 10.
Scanning is important t me as I am in the process of scanning my departed parents treasure trove of pictures. They encompass my childhood and much more.
Photography then was not what it is today and many of the pictures have degraded. Thanks for Photoshop which allows me to do much restoration and I am still learning about its many features.
I know one option is to use my digital camera to take pictures of the old photos and import that into my computer and Photoshop. But I shouldn't have to do that. I am seriously considering installing Win 7on a second disc drive so I can have the option to boot Win 7 or Win 10. That should get me my scanner back.

She saw a sea of blank faces, except for Little Hodakio, a bright foreign
exchange student from Japan, who had his hand up:
"Patrick Henry, 1775," he said.
Very good! -- Who said, " Government of the People, by the People, for the People,
shall not perish from the Earth."
Again, no response except from Little Hodakio: "Abraham Lincoln, 1863".
"Excellent!" said the teacher continuing, "Let's try one a bit more difficult -- Who said, "Ask not
what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country'?"
Once again, Hodakio's was the only hand in the air and he said: "John F. Kennedy, 1961"
The teacher snapped at the class, "Class, you should be ashamed of yourselves.
Little Hodakio isn't from this country and he knows more about our history than you do".
She heard a loud whisper: "F_ _ k the Japs".
"Who said that? -- I want to know right now!" she angrily demanded.
Little Hodakio put his hand up, "General MacArthur, 1945".
At that point, a student in the back said, "I'm gonna puke".
The teacher glares around and asks, "All right! -- Now who said that?"
Again, Little Hodakio says, "George Bush to the Japanese Prime Minister, 1991".
Now furious, another student yells, "Oh yeah? -- Suck this!"
Little Hodakio jumps out of his chair waving his hand and shouts to the teacher,
"Bill Clinton, to Monica Lewinsky, 1997!"
Now with almost mob hysteria someone said,
"You little shit! -- If you say anything else -- I'll kill you!"
Little Hodakio frantically yells at the top of his voice,
"Michael Jackson to the children testifying against him, 2004".
The teacher fainted.
As-the class gathered around the teacher on the floor, someone said, "Oh shit,we're F-- ked!"
Little Hodakio said quietly, "The American people, November 4, 2008 and again in 2012, when Obama was elected".
Love them! Here is another - one of my all time favorites. The concluding statement sounded too much like the supreme being speaking from on high and was deemed by some as sacrilegious.
