Unfortunately, todays society uses stuff that can't even be opened up to put a new battery into. Why restore anything...easy come, easy go.

I feel the same way. Old cars, old airplanes, old steam engines and classic architecture are all a part of my and your history. Thank goodness, a few have the big bucks to save bits that history for us and future generations to enjoy. I had your thought in my mind when I recently went through the LeMay Car Museum in Tacoma, WA about two weeks ago.

I went to lunch with a cousin yesterday. The burger place we went to had a 1956 two door hardtop Chevy the same powder blue and white two-tone as the one you shot parked out in front. That was sure a beautiful car.

I've gone to several web sites and found out that my old Pentax K10D should be good for at least 100,000 shutter actions. That is very promising. I guess I will have it converted to some form of IR use. Evidently, Pentax has a very good track record with the life of their focal plane shutter mechanisms.

Thank you Dngallagher. That is exactly the info I needed. My old Pentax K10D has had 37,087 shutter snaps. It also told me when it was made (Sept. 10, 2007). I really appreciate getting that info. I saved the site for future use. Again, thanks a million. RB

I camera I'm considering having converted is a Pentax K10. Can a find the shutter count for it?

I have read, probably here, of people knowing or finding out what the actual shutter count of a digital camera is. I have a few older digital cameras of which I would like to know that information. One reason is that I am considering having on of my cameras converted to be a dedicated IR camera. That conversion isn't too expensive, but I don't want to do it if the camera is going to die right after having an IR conversion done. Any info will be much appreciated. Thanks RBush

I think I just found out how to show pictures that can be dowloaded into a larger viewing size.

Again, I will attempt to offer some pictures of the actual harbor of Gig Harbor, Washington. These will also be b/w pictures taken on one of my old Pentax Spotmatic cameras.

Lenny,

Evidently, the owner of most of these cars made a fortune collecting trash and doing salvage. Some of his cars have gotten the highest awards at the Solo DeConcours at Pebble Beach. I saw a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible that was to die for. Maybe I'll post it on UHH. I took a picture of it with my digital camera. As my brother in-law and I went down ramps into lower levels the light got quite dim and I had to abandon my film cameras and go with my digital and higher ISOs. Also, when cars are parked fairly close to each other there isn't much freedom when attempting to taking snaps of those you really like.

Recently, my wife and I drove to Gig Harbor to see our oldest daughter's new digs. I took both film and digital cameras. The first picture was taken with a Pentax Spotmatic film camera. The second shot was taken with my Pentax K5 digital.

I'm like you...just joined, but have been following UHH for some time. My first offerings were of recently taken pictures on one of my old film cameras. Yes, I shoot digital, but I still like using film and living in both the analog and digital worlds of photography.

Starting out with an Argus C3 was, indeed, a humble beginning, but the important thing is that it was a spark that lit your desire to continue with photography.

I look forward to seeing pictures. Please post some soon.

Hopefully, these pictures will get through. They were shot on one of my old Pentax Spotmatic cameras. Scanning was done on an Epson V600 Photo

I'm quite old and not too smart. Even after getting what seemed to be good instructions on sending pictures to UHH, I still can't figure out how to do it. The word browser was used. Please tell me exactly what other names it might go by?

I have an Apple iMac computer. I receive the Ugly Hedgehog every day with my emails. I store my pictures in the Apple program called 'Photos.'

I know how to include scanned pictures into an email I'm sending by drag-and-dropping it into the email.

Wha am I not doing?

I should have proof read my introductory note. The 'hobbit' is not the only type. Hope you like my pictures more than my poor typing.

I live in Ogden, UT. My photography hobbit started when I bought a quality camera to take pictures of my two year old baby boy. That was in 1967. I now shoot a lot of digital, but I still love the old Pentaz cameras I cut my teeth on.

I recently bought an Epson photo scanner to digitize all of my 49 years of shooting slides, taking b/w pics from bulk loaded film and also lots of pictures shot on color negative film.

I now use the scanner as my darkroom and am again shooting with my old cameras and old prime lenses.

Please tell me how I might send a few introductory pictures.

Yours truly,
Richard B.
