Shutter count?

I have read, probably here, of people knowing or finding out what the actual shutter count of a digital camera is. I have a few older digital cameras of which I would like to know that information. One reason is that I am considering having on of my cameras converted to be a dedicated IR camera. That conversion isn't too expensive, but I don't want to do it if the camera is going to die right after having an IR conversion done. Any info will be much appreciated. Thanks RBush

If the camera is a Nikon, most likely you can find the shutter count in the EXIF data of each image... if it is a Canon you need to have software to read it from the camera via the USB connection, others you may never know.

You can try this site - it seems to allude to Pentax putting shutter count info in EXIF data.....

http://www.pentaxforums.com/pages/check-shutter-count-exif.html

IF it puts the data in the EXIF, all you need is to examine the exif data of a photo taken with the camera....

Edit: You are in luck....

Thank you Dngallagher. That is exactly the info I needed. My old Pentax K10D has had 37,087 shutter snaps. It also told me when it was made (Sept. 10, 2007). I really appreciate getting that info. I saved the site for future use. Again, thanks a million. RB

Thanks for posting this URL. It looks fairly hopeless for us Sony users.

I've gone to several web sites and found out that my old Pentax K10D should be good for at least 100,000 shutter actions. That is very promising. I guess I will have it converted to some form of IR use. Evidently, Pentax has a very good track record with the life of their focal plane shutter mechanisms.

Try camerashuttercount.com. Upload the last photo taken with the K10D. DO Not do any processing

Not hopeless.
1) Sony cameras never wear out.
2) My only Sony is a pocketable DSC-RX100M3. Big name for a little camera. It numbers files sequentially and I don't use it a lot so I just look at the file name for the last shot.

When ever I need a shutter count I simply type into my google search engine " how to determine Shutter count for "X" camera. And it works, I get right to a page that I simply take a picture with my camera (usually a jpeg) load the shot into the web site and WOW, it calculates my shutter count. And guess what, it is very accurate too. Good luck.
