more old locomotives at York Rail Museum in England
Yes Jazz, early morning and when kids are at school is the best time to go. 10 miles the other way from where I live is the Town of Darlington and it has a rail museum which houses the "Locomotion 1" this was the first locomotive used to run the first passenger train on 27th sept 1825 between Darlington and Stockton-on -tees.
I had my panasonic fz28 Bridge Camera to thank for that. It was set on intelligent auto...the hardest work I had to do was to make sure nobody stood in the way and then press the shutter button!!.
Alan.
Very funny GINA 49. You were with me that day, but you were more interested in your fried Bacon sandwich served up in the museum cafe....Hee Hee.
After visiting the church we went to the roman fort (the roman bathhouse there is brilliant)I have been before, but a lot of the fort is still under the soil, and this time there were scores of volunteers working on uncovering more of it,when I got talking to them I discovered they were all youngsters from the US. They were doing an incredible job.
This unusual church is about 1600 years old,one of the oldest in England. what makes it unusual is that the stonework is Roman, when the romans left Britain the locals dragged the dressed stones from the nearby Binchester roman fort (about three miles away)and built this early christian church.
Lovely shots, but I wouldn't want them served with my Egg and Bacon for breakfast!
I suppose with a bit of a push I might downsize!!
Yes RG, as you will know most pubs here have some kind of "ashtray" outside, but as the night goes on the aim becomes more erratic, so now you have a nice clean pub inside... but the pavement outside is now an ashtray!!
I wouldn't like to go up there and change that bulb!!
If anybody is interested I have posted more in "steam power 3" thanks to all who have posted their positive comments.
More locomotives from Shildon rail museum in North East England
Yes Dook,Its almost like a Penny Farthing bike, but I'm sorry I can't give any info on it.
Thanks for your kind welcome. Yes I doubt the old girl will run again,to be quite honest I wouldn't like to have been sat behind her when she was running!!!.
Alan.
Glad you like them, today would be a good day to go. If it rains any more we'll be able to swim there!!!
