A beautiful job with a sobering story line. I can't believe we announced our targets ahead of time! Why is that not treason?

Thank you for the exceptional reply. You make many excellent points that highlight the benefits of Lightroom. I am going to give it another go after I figure out how to start a catalog and not import all of the pictures on my pictures hard drive.

Thank you again.

Thank you for your thoughts and comments.

Actually I did learn to use Lightroom and have several guide books. I currently superscribe to PS/LR/Bridge on the monthly plan, so I do have the current versions. How the edits are saved with the original is of secondary importance and may not be relative.

My post is to learn what I am missing with LR, and if it might be worth the effort to use Adobe's catalog system that many UGG posts report troubles with. And yes there are rules and no nos with any software program. So is it worth having to maintain a separate file system?

Years ago I became befuddled with the catalog challenges that come with Adobe Lightroom. Additionally was that edited .nef had to be saved in Lightroom's file format creating a duplicate picture to manage and keep track of. Don't move any picture outside of Lightroom!??? My adopted file format is simply YEAR-MONTH-DAY Description i.e. "2018-07-28 Joe's HS Graduation"

I note all the questions and problems presented in UHH that would seem to confirm my decision to post process my pictures in Camera Raw saving my edits in the original nef. If there was a really special picture then into Photoshop for a learning curve and that special process.

Have I lost out on something? What are your comments?

Lucerne for a great old city. A river runs through it.
The ice caves at the top of Jungfrau mountain with a cog rail trip to get there. Spec. mountain range views. Dress warm with good shoes.

Taxes are one of the reasons Florida is Red and growing. No state income tax. If you live here more than 1/2 a year your property taxes may increase on your primary residence not more than 3% a year even if the fair market value increases say 10%. If the market assessed value declines by say 10% your taxes are calculated off the lower value, and in subsequent years may only increase from that lower value a max of 3%. Sales tax is 6%. As a veteran I get deductions from the fair market value. Widow widower deduction. And Florida has billion dollar surpluses - a rainy day savings account.

Is possible to display the focus point for a .nef picture in Adobe Bridge or Camera Raw?
Nikon ViewNX would show a box where the D800/810 focus point was in the picture.

Amen. First thought that the 51 points meant that if your subject was in any of the 51 it would be in focus. Now we understand that the 51 are only where you can set the focus point to be.

Speaking of Nikon focus. Nikon View had a setting that would display the focus point used by the 800/810 camera (with a box) to set focus. Is there a way to display the focus point used in Adobe Bridge or Adobe Raw?

Prior to this answer and minutes ago I downloaded your book to my desktop and transferred to my Kindle. (a first attempt) Much looking forward to learning more and your tip here is much appreciated!!! Is the focus lock better with the 850?

PS As a side note the PDF file on my Kindle shows a less than full size page view requiring a bit of zooming to read easily.

Thanks for the ideas to try.

The objective is to have the camera lock onto a point and track the object (i.e. bird) when it moves suddenly. Don't think group focus or single point have the "lock on" feature of 3d only available in AF- C.

Shooting the Nikon D810 with the AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm 1:2.8 E ED. AF set to 3-D, AF-C, Programed mode, 51 focus points, Focus tracking with lock in AF 3 Normal.
My tale of woe:
This weekend the pelicans were swimming and suddenly taking off to dive for fish. Placed the focus on their white head and held the shutter 1/2 way, and waited for the moment. However the focus point started "jumping" off the bird's head and onto the body with slight camera movement following the swim. When the bird took off the focus point did not seem to stay locked on the birds head.

This same focus lock problem was also experienced taking movies of my dog running the the yard. Heard click click, click click, etc. as the focus point jumped around failing to maintain my chosen point - that was kept in the view finder.

Any difference in performance between view finder and live view screen?

So kind sirs & madams what say you? Me, the equipment, or the menu?
