Both the D3XXX & D5XXX come in a red option! You could pick up a refurb with a kit lens that she could leave on the camera. Price would probably be in the ballpark of a new coolpix! She would get a color she wants and a camera that she can really grow with!

I have the D7200 and it is an awesome camera. It has enough on it to last me for years. I am not interested in the D7500, but I am waiting for it to come out so that there will be good deals on a 2nd D7200! I have found it very versatile for my use. I have done landscapes, birds, portraits of my grandbabies, pets, etc. I have the 18-140mm lens on it and find that I tend to leave that lens on 99% of the time and it serves me well. I came from the D3100 to the D7200 and have been extremely happy with that choice as it has been the perfect camera for me. Good luck on your journey to your perfect camera!

This is a question that I have had as well! I have the D7200 and was looking at the Nikon 18-300! So glad you asked, I have looked at comparisons but wondered if the extra for the f3.5-f5.6 was worth it. Will be watching to see what the opinions are!

I have the D7200 and I love it, I keep the 18-140 lens on it. I purchased the body only and then bought the 18-140 lens separately. I had the D3100 with the 2 kit lenses 18-55 & 50-200, but did not care for having to switch between those 2 lenses. When I upgraded to the D7200 I sold the D3100 with both the lenses and have the convenience of 1 lens. Now I am just saving up for a bigger lens, would rather buy a bigger lens than the D7500, which really does not impress me! Good luck on your camera purchase!
