You are on the right track. I would charge them what you normally would charge - with a bonus of a free image or two, some framing, etc. NEVER work for free. It devalues what you do, and devalues photography in general, making it hard for those of us who rely on photography to make a living.

If you think the popular girl will be a source of good leads, then discuss some form of compensation for her hard work. But I cannot emphasize enough - never ever work for nothing.

She will only be able to refer you to other seniors. Once they graduate, your referrals are over. Never work for free!!!!!!!

Saw some fogging on my lens filter and waited for 15 minutes or so expecting that all would be well.

I noted the above. Did you have a filter of some sort on the lens? Did you leave it on or remove it when you were shooting. Did you note if the fogging was on the filter or the lens?

Logitech has a three-year warranty on some of its keyboards. Wow! Great! Unfortunately, the warranty exists on paper, only. It's been almost two weeks since I filed a claim and received a case number, and I haven't heard from them. I emailed them again, but still no reply. No more Logitech for me.

Jerry, I called them about my keyboard yesterday and waited for an agent. Took about 30 minutes waiting online, but got an agent and bingo, they are sending me a new keyboard.

How many times can an SD card be formatted before it fails? I know that some fail randomly, but is there a manufacturers guide perhaps.

I know we all use UPS and Fed-Ex a lot and wanted to pass on my experience

I had a package coming from Nikon USA via UPS. It was not marked signature required. I have "My Choice" so I tracked the truck all day as it drove past the entrance to my community at least 8 times. About 3:30 I got the "Getting Close" notification, so I went to the living room next to the front door. At 4:00 pm, I got pinged that the package had been delivered, but no picture attached. A moment later I heard the truck drive by without slowing down. I opened the door and there was nothing. Luckily I live in a townhome community with one way in and one way out. I walked to the outbound side and waited. I heard the truck stop and start a few times and stood in the road so he would have to stop when he got to me. I asked him about the package for my address. He just looked at me and reached across to the passenger side under the dashboard and pulled out my box. I asked him why he tagged it delivered when it wasn't. He said he could not find my unit number (all the houses have numbers prominently above the front doors). I asked him why he couldn't find mine when I heard at least 4 stops that he seemed to have found. He just hit the gas and left. My thought is he saw Nikon and figured he could get some free stuff, not knowing I was the rare person that was home and waiting.

Maybe not all porch thieves are out looking for opportunity, sometimes they might drive the truck.

...I shoot marching bands and if I needed a release from each student I wouldn't have time to shoot (I might shoot 32 groups in a day, 8-10k shots). My activity is peppered with many who do this similarly, and a couple of companies that contract photographers to do shows and then sell online. I've also shot individual groups and the students formally and sold online. Actually, I've had a couple of my shots make the cover of a niche national publication; they contacted me after finding one they liked in my online photos and I gave them the pic to use (so, I'm assuming here that the publication is aware of the legalities...I HOPE SO, lol). When the featured students, through their director, were informed, they were nothing but astonished and delighted, but never in all this process was a release mentioned. Shrug. So, I suppose providing a *service* means something here, the venue is also an important factor. Quite honestly, I've been doing this so long that I'm just gonna continue the flow...

Wow, you are one very lucky photographer so far. If the parents saw that cover and knew how much they could get off of a law suit from you and the magazine using that photo without a release, you would be spending a lot of time with a lawyer. I am surprised that the magazine used it without a release. Very gutsy. I hope this happened many years ago. I do not know the statue of limitations in your jurisdiction, but on average it is about 2 years after the child meets the age of majority in a lot of venues.

Okay, I’ll run against the grain. I tend to underexpose -1/3 to -2/3 stops. Maybe, just a matter of time before noise bites me, but so far, it’s worked for me...... I’ll take a chance with a little noise over blowing out any day.

I have been doing portraits for high school extra curricular activity groups for about 8 years. It has suddenly occurred to me that I might need a release from the student's parents to do this. Does the mere fact that the parents fill out an order form with the students name and subsequently pay for the photos eliminate the need for a separate release? These photos are NOT published anywhere. Only purchased prints and print packages are ever released.

If I do need a release, are there any suggestions where I can get a simple template that I can customize for my work. Everything I've found online is so full of legal jargon that I barely understand it myself. Thanks in advance for your help. As always, it is appreciated.

You are looking for legal advise here? Why not consult your attorney for advise in your jurisdiction?

Shooting through the window, causes a slight haze in the photo. In Lightroom there is a haze removal tool. I would suggest that you try that to remove the light grey haze overcast in this photo and it will make the colors pop.

I found the problem after about 4 hours of looking around and reading. The camera was set for red eye reduction. So it was telling the 900 to fire 3 reduced flashes to reduce red eye. Thanks to all for their responses. I think I know how it got set to red eye reduction. I few weeks ago, I was shooting and set up the camera for bracketing. I believe it may have happened at that time due to the button to open the flash and set red eye is just above the button for setting the bracketing. That will teach me to be more careful.

David, i dont have the D7100, but did have the D7000 and I do believe that your camera does have an equivalent setting to the D7000 and the D800 called Exposure Delay. On the D800 it is D4, and it is not the self timer. it needs to be set to off otherwise it will impose a 1, 2, or 3 second delay on all shots. Just go in and set it to off and I suspect that all will be good!

Hi, Don't have your camera but I would (if it were mine) do all the "resets" that are available for that model. Full factory reset....then (if that doesn't help) Take out battery and card, turn on and off, then re-install both, and see what happens. Manual or Nikon site may have other methods. Hope you can solve at home.

Thanks, did that. Same problem.
