What kind of a smokey world do you live in? It's a requirement to show your driver license, vehicle registration and proof of insurance when pulled by the police. After that you can shut up and ask for a lawyer. I'm am not LEO or lawyer and realize some things have changed since 9/11. But compliance with the law is not one of them.
