Is there racism in this country ?... Sure, and it extends to all races.... It's something that will never completely go away as if two people of different races don't like one another, for whatever reason, it will be labeled racism. I would be more inclined to accept this movie if it were done on actual campuses instead of a fictional campus. It is simply arguing a line of thought of a group of people. It's not like I am denying some of the issues, it's more like the issues are being inflated beyond reality.... One of the things I have an issue with is people calling themselves "African Americans".They need to only address themselves as "Americans" That is typesetting themselves into a class, something they are trying to eliminate. I don't refer to myself as a "European American" simply because I have European roots...As for the "Ferguson" issue, there are conflicting stories coming from both sides. It's best to wait until all the facts are in & ,if need be, lie detector test administered to determine who is telling the truth... The protesters are nothing more than a group with a "lynch mob" mentality.... They are wanting to indite & prosecute an individual before & regardless of any facts coming out.... That's no better than the rural South in years gone by...

My immediate reaction to this subject is there appears to be an irony in that the white/black conversation must still continue 151 years after the first legislated human-equality document, the Emancipation Proclamation. I think, soba1, the conversation may well continue another 151 years! I'll drift into opinion here: Basic human nature can be legislated overnight, but true results may be a long time waiting. It's basic animal instinct to at least be suspicious of dissimilar animals. Rabbits are automatically suspicious of wolves, it's like "rabbit profiling". Blacks have an inherent disadvantage over most other dissimilar varieties of humans: They just look so blatantly different than white people! Neither blacks nor whites can hide from this.

I can like black people or not. I can perceive them as a threat or not. I can recognize a black person as a friend or not. But not until I've gotten past the "he's different than me" syndrome. Sure, the difference is undeniably irrelevant! But it's still THERE. Sure, it's nothing but a difference in the color of the outer shell, but it's there! I harbor no racist traits, but that little "speed bump" is unavoidable, just as with a one-armed man...how can one NOT notice?

I believe the black man and the white man are functionally equal, intellectually equal, spiritually equal. But anyone who pretends not to notice the difference in skin color is just being dishonest, and that's not an admirable trait under either skin color.

LGBT's are embarking on a similar journey, soba1, women have been on this path for a long while, too. Women have the same disadvantage, they have an immediate and undeniable difference to deal with. I'll contend that women should NOT want to eliminate that difference, and neither should black persons!

It looks like a fun movie to watch... I 'll watch for it. However, I won't be able to relate to the white people in this film since I have never known what "white privilege" means.

I was raised around people who where prejudice. I was told to hate the black man but was never told why. This is a question that I had ask my self before I even knew what the word prejudice meant but I was never give a reason as to why I should hate another person just because his skin was darker than mine.

I was once told... because they stink! Really? You should smell my father after he hadn't bathe for a week.

I was once told... because they take our jobs! Really? I have a job, no one has tried to take it except another white man.

The list goes on & on but Jesus said... Love thy Neighbor. My neighbor happens to be black. On the other hand, I am sure that the movie is good but I also dislike being told that the condition of the black man into days sociality is somehow my fault.

Thanks for post... it will be a movie that I will be interested in watching and I hope that I didn't take away from your thread.

Screamin I wholeheartedly agree with this. That's one of the reasons it saddens me so when I read about hate crimes being perpetrated by blacks.
Young Mr. Brown IMO no matter how much I might not like to admit was wrong.
There will always be differences it's just how we choose to deal with them.
If we could get past it for even year. Do you realize the changes we could truly bring in this country.

U didn't and your dad that was just the way he was raised. Which brings me real quick to Paula Dean a new controversy about her website for her resturant.
Leave the woman alone.....
U just started asking questions.
We all stink when we don't bathe but I swear. We just stink with a different smell.
If you have ever played team sports think about it.

Hmmmmm I think that we were getting past it but it does seem to me that racial politics is president Obama's strong suit. He may be careful in his own words but make no mistake, with the election of the president and the people whom he brought to the pinnacle of power in the democratic party his politics have driven a divide in this country that I have not seen since the riots of the 60's. The democratic party uses and preys on minorities to remain in power, to insure election success they stir the pot, be it white privilege which does have a basis, to immigration, or the war on women, the democrats work very hard to divide us and to message to their constituents that if they don't get out and vote that they will be repressed by a white power structure.... It is all BS. Things were getting better, much better that is why our president is in office, but through their obsession with power the democrats have screwed the pooch and set us backwards decades...

The concerns that the democrats tout have some basis in reality but the dems not only do not offer viable solutions other than destroying the rights of others, but they really don't want to solve them because then they would lose the issues that they use to remain in power.

Tell me, what have the dems accomplished for minorities in this country? How have minority communities advanced in the last 50 years? What exactly was done for them to better their environment and condition? Even education, dems love to make noise about inner city schools and the need for more funding but each time that real reform is put forward that would make a difference for those inner city kids the dems squash it as they cater to the teachers unions who would be forced to make serious changes to effect the better outcomes sought.
