I'm glad he made it through all those conflicts/wars, seems like now days more journalists and/or photographers are getting killed, taken hostage etc. I wish they would have included a link to his work, I'll have to Google it when I have time, thanks for the article.

I'm going to dump all the gear I seldom use, you know the gear I have for that undefined thing coming up that never comes up. You know, that cover shot just waiting for me to capture. You know, the good gear, the high quality body and lenses, the heavy stuff in case a wedding, super bowl once in a lifetime shoot presents itself.

Getting rid of all of it, going light - Olympus Pen F and a couple, OK maybe three or four small MFT lenses and taking it with me everywhere and getting back to shooting for fun, maybe not Ansel Adams quality, but fun doing it. Yep, that's the plan, watch the classified for upcoming Canon gear! Happy New Year everyone! Novots.

I do. THat's why I thought his whole drill was "funny". HE should have a better fix on prices than the rest of us put together. Actually, I think it is rather disengenuous.

I don't know Hershel but I tend to agree with you, seems like he would have an excellent idea of what a good fair price would be, I on the other hand need to do research to come up with an offer. In a weird twist it seems like Hershel would be someone I'd turn to for an estimate. It's no big deal, just odd I guess.

If you're primarily interested in video, you may want to look at Panasonic, known for their video excellence, significantly better than Canon and Nikon. The GH4 is the top of the line, several other models are rated highly for video as well. Simply Google the subject for reviews. Many videographers have switched to Panasonic. I'm currently in the process of dumping all my Canon gear and going MFT Panasonic. Good luck.

Consider the Panasonic FZ1000, a bit more in cost, 10x the camera.

The camera and that picture side by side on a shelf or end table would be fantastic! Great shot.

I would find a prominent spot in the house, display it with some other smaller gear, have a great story and memory. I think cameras make great decorator items when done right. Sorry about your gear, I guess you were to get something different!

Just jumping in again here to make sure everyone understands my previous post about electronic versions of most of the magazines being mentioned. There are services, Readly, Zinio, and Readr that you pay a monthly fee of approximately $9.95 and you get all of the various magazines being mentioned. You can view them on your computer, tablet, iPad etc... So, if you want access to a bunch of photography magazines and don't necessarily need the print version (I just sold about 10 years worth of paper magazines for $75) this is a great option, and you can essentially carry all the magazines with you. Maybe this is overkill and everyone already knows this, I'm just not getting that vibe though from the responses. I promise, no more!

Get an electronic subscription to Readly, you get access to about 15 photo mags (as well as hundreds of others) there monthly. Subscription is $9.95 a month. Works perfectly on my ipad! I used to buy several of the better magazines but as everyone knows the cost for those is quite high, the electronic version allows me to see almost all of them at a fraction of the price. No, I am not a salesman for Readly. There are a couple of other electronic services that do the same.

Wow, amfoto1, what a response. You might want to write photo books, well done!
