I am going to let my subscription to Popular Photography expire. Why: It seems to be getting thinner and thinner every issue. The articles aren't very interesting. I have also noticed that the major photography retailers have cut back on their advertising, i.e. B&H and Adorama used to have several pages showing their products and now one or two. What publications are you fellow "hogs" reading that worthwhile?

Outdoor Photography Canada magazine is really good. They had an excellent article tiltled "Beyond Basic Composition". I still have that issue. They put it online here: http://www.oopoomoo.com/2013/12/beyond-basic-composition-line-shape-and-form-in-photography/
Check out the difference in the lighthouse composed with the rule of thirds and then composed with the golden spiral.

Why:

Photo magazines were always thin in real world photography to start with. One could learn more in seeing what professional photographers were doing by getting specialized publications or catalogues (Vogue, playboy*, Hunting, Cars ads**, Furniture and the like).

Now these magazines are a dying breed because the readership is moving on toward internet. In turn the advertisers are looking to other sources or method of advertisement like UHH (narrow market but highly susceptible to targeted advertisement that includes 'word of mouth') and the more generic Google stuff that uses cookies, your browsing history and telemetry (geo location by example).

National geography by example was once 'THE' reference. They moved toward television and produced incredible programs on many subjects. Now that internet is taking over the quality of their production is slowly going down. While still 'A' reference it has lost 'THE' defining edge.

Against internet competition the paper press is dying. No money means no employee and no knowledgeable writers so...

The real problem is that internet has the best, the worst and the average mixed together so getting the 'right stuff' is difficult. I look at UHH as entertainment and a potential source by example but if I really want something accurate without shifting through weird conflicting wordy advises I do my own research using various search engines.

So, printed press? It could still have its use but... The only thing that has some interest is the local paper that is printed once a month and give an idea of what is going in town from cultural events to crime...

Anyway, my answer is 'None'.

Rongno is correct that most folks are getting their info from the internet ; Outdoor Photography has been coming to my doorstep since the days of Galen Rowell and Dewitt Jones.... Sadly, they are gone and the mag has been getting thinner by the issue. B&H has even pulled their ads which I used to enjoy. I willl prob. continue to subscribe as I do look forward to reading the printed page. I will look into Outdoor Photography Canada though ! Maybe start looking at magazines on Phone cams and apps... OOps ! LOL

Depends on what equipment, and subject matter, you shoot. If you are a Canon shooter, I strongly suggest EOS Magazine-a British publication, but strictly about Canon products, and has one hell of an archive collection available online

Most of the photo magazines for the UK market are far more interesting and intelligently written than their US counterparts. You can get them at Barnes & Noble.

I simply go to the public library to read the latest photography magazine issues. My local library carries Popular Photography and a few others. I think subscriptions cost too much nowadays.

I have noticed the same thing, also their product reviews used to be top-notch, but since a few years they are hardly worth reading. I also receive shutterbug, that is better in some areas but falls behind in others, so it's a toss.
