I took this shot at Sandy Hook State Park a couple of years ago. As far as I am concerned there is nothing outstanding about this image. That is why I selected it. I knew the members of the HOG would use their creativity and are up for this challenge.
Feel free to download this image and edit it any way you want. Black and white conversion, composite, adjustment, enhancement. The choice is yours. When you finish, please post it in this thread. We will accept edits until 9 pm on Thursday. At that time, we will begin to vote. Thank you all for your continued support of this weekly challenge. Your efforts are very much appreciated.
I took this shot at Sandy Hook State Park a couple... (show quote)

Just some minor tweaking . . .

The second image has gorgeous light. The first image has too much flash on the faces. Much of the skin is overexposed and several areas of the cheeks and forehead are blown. I would definitely find a way to cut down on the exposure on the faces. It does not look good because the contrast is missing. I think this whole image is overexposed also.

Not blown out . . . a bit over exposed, but thought it best to show them SOOC . . not yet tweaked. Because I always shoot in RAW there is no problem to adjust the brightness without the penalty of image quality loss.

Agreed, my thoughts exactly, however I've been using the Lumiquest equivalent, same effect, Bob.

Similar, but not the same results. The Lite-Scoop models are the only ones designed to be mounted on the narrow side of the flash, allowing for the flash to be placed higher than the lens in portrait mode. This of course presents a problem of the narrow vertical beam of light not covering the horizontal coverage of some lenses, so the "Scoops" are shaped to reflect the light to cover it. That could not be possible with the flat reflector surfaces of the Lumiquest products, but you are quite right in that in landscape mode images the results would be quite similar.
Here is an image borrowed from the Lite Genius site.

Hi all,

I wanted to tap into the collective wisdom of this board and find out what people think is the best diffuser for a speed light. If it matters, I shoot Canon and have 580EXII.

Been shooting weddings for almost 6 decades. Over the past 10-12 years I have been using the Lite Genius Lite-Scoops.

The problem I have with most of the answers here are . . . "I try . . ", "when the circumstances are . . . ", "I do this when appropriate", "when I have a room with . . . "
In other words, under all different situations most people are suggesting something different. In a wedding the scene changes very rapidly from small to large rooms, from high ceilings to low ceilings to no ceilings, from dark walls to white walls, etc. Really???? How much time does and event photographer have to make these decisions and changes of equipment???
I needed something that was consistent under almost all circumstances and unfortunately, anything that requires bouncing does not fill the bill. My Lite-Scoop is on the flash always . . . outdoors, indoors, large rooms, small rooms, cloudy days and sunny days.
There are possibly ways to get better results under certain situations, but only with a lot of preparations and testing. I choose consistency which the Lite-Scoop products have always delivered.
Here's a couple of shots from a family birthday last Saturday.

My husband liked your entry best.
He thought they were all pretty great, but he really liked that you colored the bugs and appreciated the "compound eye" you gave the grasshopper.

Thank you so much!

think this is adequate?

Personally I would feel that only one, the 24-240 would be more than adequate. Changing lenses in the field is always discouraged as it creates more opportunities for dust on sensor situations, more opportunities for accidental dropping or loss, and if not absolutely necessary, creates more things to worry about. Less is better when traveling.

My 9 year old granddaughter loves photography. Any suggestions on the purchase of her first camera? It needs to be sturdy and probably a point and shoot b

I have just purchased three cameras for grandchildren on Craig's List. Point and shoots . . . 12 MP and up with the video ability. Prices ranged from $30 to $45.00 Canadian . . . all work great - like new!

In our club, level A must be earned. Everyone starts out as a level B photographer when they join the club - even advanced or pro photographers. In the end of year competition, certificates and memorial awards are awarded. If anyone has accumulated at least three certificates or one memorial award, they are then moved up to level A.

That's nice.

Not much. Camera clubs should be there to foster one's interest in photography. The minute competitions are introduced problems arise. I cannot for the life of me see why there is a insidious desire to have competitions.

Totally agree Bob . . . there are guidelines in photography but because it is an art, nothing is cast in stone. There are no absolutes, so a "level A" photographer is really only better in the opinion of others. Opinions are like AHs . . . everybody has one!
