I did ask in advance how long it would take and was only told 7-10 days. There was no reference to a week’s wait from receipt to login. This is main basis for upset.

I shipped using Fedex ground in two days. Why Nikon said 5-10 days on shipping return makes no sense to me! With Nikon’s purchasing power, they should be able to get two to three day service.

There was no option to pay an up charge for expedited repair service.

Yes, having a backup camera is not a luxury. It is basic.

If I may give some insider advise from 39 years in Sales & Marketing & Management... If you were told 7-10 days need to call the person you talked to back (always keep notes of name and/or extension, date spoke with, promises, etc. ANYTIME talking to Sales or Service. If he/she can't hurry it up based on their promise, ask to talk to the supervisor. In many cases this person will automatically back the employee and make some excuses - that is their job - so if he/she doesn't give you satisfaction, politely ask to speak to his/her boss. You may have to go up even one more level but now you are into upper management. If busy talk to the secretary, admin assistant, whoever, tell them what was promised and ask when you will hear back from her/his boss. At this level, you have now gotten the s#*t flowing back downhill at the other end and someone there will hear "why am I being bothered with this - take care of it". That is all you want.

I once made it to the CEO's office of Cincinnati Bell, speaking with his right-hand man, because a single WATS line (commonly referred to 1-800- numbers) was not installed on the day promised and then was told it would be another week. Within a half hour THREE repair trucks showed up, pulled off a multi-million dollar project. They could not believe I only needed a single line installed.

As for Nikon telling you 5-10 days on shipping return, that is standard because they have no control once it leaves their facility, so covers for snow storms, etc. Even Amazon will often state 7-10 days for their free shipping, when most of my orders show up within 2-3 days after shipment.

Finally, a chance for you to get reacquainted with your backup camera - that is not always a bad thing.

When I sent in a body I got it back in about 10 days from Nikon. My biggest gripe was the communication. The service ticket was “closed” before they even received the camera. No updates were posted to the service ticket and even though the ticket was created through my Nikon account which is connected to my email address they sent me a letter through the mail with a question because they didn’t have my email address... that was just plain weird...

Just sent my D850 to Nikon in Melville for warranty repair to fix a sticking shutter. Camera is ten months old and never abused in any way. Called today as per fed ex tracking, body was received yesterday. Wanted to learn when it will returned. I was informed that they were just logging in receipts arriving one week ago. They further said repair would take after log in, 7-10 business days (assuming parts are available) and that shipping would take 5-10 business days. I complained but to no avail. Only received an apology. This time frame in total means that I will be without the D850 body for a month or more. Seems like a real staffing or quality problem or both. Really not acceptable. Absent ownership of much Nikon glass, I would seriously be looking at Cannon or Sony. Beware. Welcome advice from anybody on how to expedite my repair. Thank you.

Yet another DIRTY LAUNDRY RANT. These rants are getting tiresome. Have these folks nothing else to do but rant every time they feel that life has thrown another curve ball at them.
I have a Nikon 200-500 lens I have sent into Nikon 3 times and they finely got it right. I believe they tried their best to fix it every time. They always communicated effectively with me, sent me free mailing slips upon request, and have always answered my questions in a timely manner.
Sony, Canon, Nikon, Hasselblad, Zeiss, and many many other companies try very hard to GET IT RIGHT. But their is always an element out there that would not be satisfied if they could walk on water.
To all of these folks I say, GET A LIFE.
LIFE IS LIKE A ROLLER COASTER, IF IT DIDN'T HAVE IT'S UP'S AND DOWN'S, IT WOULD NOT BE ANY FUN.
Can't we all just get along.

I've been a Nikon user for 52 years - my experience has been different than yours. They will provide a worst case scenario, but often fix it much faster. I have dropped off a dropped D300 and a dropped 24-70 on a Friday, and gotten a call that the camera and lens was ready for pickup on the following Monday. They had parts on hand to do all the repair. Also, the estimate was higher than what I was actually charged.

Pretty new Nikon user here. What exactly is in that building? Anything besides corporate offices and repair? I work right over there and was always curious.

A botched repair of a canon FT QL 40 years ago made me switch to Nikon and I never looked back. Only one repair since then expertly executed with quick turnaround time.

Do you serve cheese with that whine?

Yours isn't the only camera on which these folks are currently working. I've had them work on my camera a couple of times. The second on their advice, as that would extend my warranty 6 months past the time limit. They are very professional and do excellent work. At least that's my opinion.

I've found that the repairs and return of equipment are completed much quicker than the quoted timeline. I think they are just covering themselves as they don't really know what the issue is at this point, and once handed off to shipper it is out of their hands.

When multiple posters speak enthusiastically about quick turnaround of repairs and claim them to be the norm, I believe that gives those (including me) who experience repair times approaching or exceeding a month a stronger reason to wonder what is going on, not a weaker one. There are certainly good reasons for repair times to get extended...I know...I used to work in a very competent repair shop many years ago. But there are also times that things go wrong, that personnel are short, or that things get lost in the system. It is reasonable to be aware, alert, and sometimes concerned.

I personally have no base of experience with a 2 or 3 day repair and return from Nikon. My norm for them right now is that a repair turnaround can be expected to take a month or more. That doesn't mean they are bad, but there is certainly no basis for me to tell anyone to expect anything back in a week or 10 days.

I recently sent my Df to Nikon for repair. They had it on Dec 26th and not start working on it until the 4th of January. I got my camera back on Jan 18th. It does take long but I don't complain about this. It does bother me though although I paid them for sensor cleaning the sensor still have 3 dots on it.

But the OP's norm hasn't happened yet, only an estimate . Relax and see what happens. Be sure they report back when you have it on your doorstep in 10-14 days.

It varies, I have sent a camera in for repair and had it back in less than a week including shipping both ways. I also had a camera at Nikon for over a month waiting for part from Japan. One advantage I have is a NPS member and am able to get a loaner while waiting for my equipment to be returned

My experience is different than yours. A few ago years I sent back my D7100 for warranty repair and it was fixed and returned in a couple of weeks.

I've always gotten fast service from Nikon's east coast facility, but they can get unexpectedly busy, workers can get sick, and other problems can slow things down. Disassembling a DSLR is a slow, meticulous process.

From what I have heard here, you would not like Sony's service.

Walk to the door knock and when someone answers ask for a tour, then post your results....
