Good thing you don't own a Buggatti Veyron and need new tires... the rims have to go back to France...Yikes
Right. That was one of the deciding factors that kept me from buying one. I wonder if it comes with a spare tire.
I'm with you on that one, Jerry. Though, the thought of purchasing a spare set of rims and tires occurred to me. However, I didn't want those tires just rotting in storage while I drove around bird-doggin' chics. Nothing like putting "old" tires on a performance car. Look what that did for Paul Walker.

A botched repair of a canon FT QL 40 years ago made me switch to Nikon and I never looked back. Only one repair since then expertly executed with quick turnaround time.
A botched repair 40 years ago and you're still holding a grudge?

The amount of time it will take as quoted to you seems fairly reasonable to me. It's about what I'd expect, roughly 3-4 weeks total for repair and return. It won't be all that much quicker with Canon or Sony either.
I agree the total door to door time is not unreasonable for any manufacturer.
They might be quicker if all goes well and there is not a large back log but that cannot be anticipated nor ramped up for.

Just sent my D850 to Nikon in Melville for warranty repair to fix a sticking shutter. Camera is ten months old and never abused in any way. Called today as per fed ex tracking, body was received yesterday. Wanted to learn when it will returned. I was informed that they were just logging in receipts arriving one week ago. They further said repair would take after log in, 7-10 business days (assuming parts are available) and that shipping would take 5-10 business days. I complained but to no avail. Only received an apology. This time frame in total means that I will be without the D850 body for a month or more. Seems like a real staffing or quality problem or both. Really not acceptable. Absent ownership of much Nikon glass, I would seriously be looking at Cannon or Sony. Beware. Welcome advice from anybody on how to expedite my repair. Thank you.

I have a D600 that I thought escaped the sensor oil splatter issue, but when I upgraded my computer monitor there they were. I checked the Nikon site and they were still honoring the warranty. So, about 8 days before this past Christmas I boxed it up and sent the body to Nikon in NY. They had it back in my hands by Christmas Eve. They replaced the shutter/sensor mechanism. I have to say that Nikon took very good care of me and given the time of year and where I live, and they did it quickly. Kudo's to Nikon for their service. Have patience Grasshopper.

If you have a Canon and sign up for CPS Silver (free if you have a body and lens), they guarantee 3-5 business day turnaround. I pay for Platinum and get free camera and lens cleaning, next business day turnaround, a loaner if they can't fix in 1 day, free shipping both ways (normally 2nd day), 30% repair discount and evaluation loans. For this you have to pay and qualify (typically 2 bodies and 3-4 lenses), but the service is great.

Complaining about it won't get anything done faster, probably the opposite, but I guess it makes you feel better, so complain away and feel better.

Wow! I have the same story in the same time frame, with the same office! what are the odds?
Over the years I have sent cameras and lenses to Canon I ship over night and have had them back in a week or 10 days at most. Itha is why I tell people Canon and Nikon are both great camera but, if you have a problem you will do better with Canon. They have the best back up in the industry.

Here we have a member's first post bashing Nikon repair. As Gene51 said, I have been a Nikon user since the F5 and have had many repairs done, some under warranty. Overall, based upon my personal experience, repair services have been really good. The biggest reason I don't get riled up so easy is that I always have something for backup and, as a NPS member, can obtain a loaner if needed. Best of luck.
If he is not happy with something or happy with some thing he has as much right to say it on his first "say" as we do.

Unless you switch to Canon Equipment, you're likely will need a repair in to Nikon, sometime again in the future. You didn't mention having a spare camera. I would guess that every member of uhh have at least two cameras. Not necessarily two D850s, but a backup. Something, not equal to a D850, that can take photos, while your camera is being repaired. And not a smartphone.
I agree that precision equipment should take whatever time is needed to effect precision repairs; I think the complaint is about the time it takes to get an item into the repair queue; “logging in” by itself would seem to be a simple process
