Yes typical nonsense response but quoting history doesn't quite answer why your head of state can shut down the government and ours can't. If you are the land of the so called free and a democracy how is it one person can shut down the government? Oh! by the way you were a little late in WW1 and WW2. And if you want to be offensive mentioning wars we didn't help you out in Vietnam and look what happened there.

It's actually 2 people shutting down the government, but point taken. I think we are currently faced with circumstances never before considered possible. Persons who want to make this who are superior, Brits or Americans, are morons. I don't think you are one of those people but I have watched you take abuse from some.

Yeah, because we didn't start it.
But when the "Sleeping giant was awakened" we kicked butt and got it over with while you were cowering on your little island and watching the "Empire" collapse like a house of cards to third rate powers. We had to gear up and then rolled over Germany and Japan like they were nothing. You lost the far east without even a fight hardly, same for Africa. If we had not given you supplies and materials you would have folded in a matter of months prior to our official entry into WWII. Not sure what they teach you there but we armed the world including the Soviets.
It wasn't our fight, like WWI wasn't but we finished it.
PS After WWII the "Empire" was gone and GB was just a little island needing the USA for defense to this day.
Late to WWII? br Yeah, because we didn't start it.... (show quote)

You're claiming superiority because of more water between us and the AXIS?

I believe we have a system that is eminently superior to yours so no comments from the losers who are not citizens.
PS we have individual liberty here still, have the right to self defense preserved from government intervention and free speech with the same protection from the government.
In fact our Declaration of Independence explained very clearly your total failure in preservation of liberty.
Then we wrote the Constitution again in response to the pathetic form of government in the UK and the current absolute disaster it is there now and chaos and high crime.
We kicked your butts in 1776/1812, and saved your ... (show quote)

This is a pretty typical response from someone who still believes the lies he was told in public school during the 20th century.

This is excessive and overblown, and a particularly in gracious post.

Nobody rolled over Germany and Japan like they were nothing, and the men who fought them got all they wanted and more; we defeated them but it wasn’t child’s play.

Even after Hitler attacked Russia, England had no picnic.

I have to apologize for some of my fellow citizens, who are ingracious and sometimes misinformed.

No thinking person sells England short for WW II.

Gentleman some gracious replies here and I think yes demigod was probably the wrong word and my apologies for using it. I think both our country's are in trouble. I believe that there's an undercurrent of deceit and lies on social media which is feeding the fires of mistrust on both sides of political opinion. Basic human fear like "We are losing control" "Our borders are not safe" "Terrorism" etc. are being exaggerated and each side is fed more fuel to hate each other. The brexit debacle over here is typical where the leave campaign used fear and a huge social media budget to spread lies where the stay campaign used boring facts from leaders of industry and finance which no one was listening too. I now look at social media and think it is both good and evil. Just a couple of points for both republican and democrats on here in your heart of hearts do you honestly think that the opposing sides hate America, the nice guy you worked with who had the opposite view to you did he hate America. I am waffling on now but open your eyes and see what that post of hate is really doing. How does the saying go "Divide and Conquer" I'm sure the Russians and Chinese know it too.

It is from someone who has studied the war.
Read many books including Churchill's 6 volume series, which you haven't.

I'm afraid that Churchill had a very biased view of many conflicts and an exceptionally biased view of the second world war mainly to glorify his own part in it. If you read his description of the war in the African desert he is very dismissive of the American efforts. He was scathing in his attack on American General Lucas who led the Anzio landings. In private he was also angry at American forces lack of advance at Monte Casino whilst refusing permission to bomb the cathedral on top which although not occupied by the German's per se they used the mountain surrounding as an observation point. You are not the only one to read books Mr Architect. And by the way you should read the other sides account Feld Marshal Kesselring being interesting in the extreme. Field Marshal Von Rundstedt who was in charge of Operation Sealion (The invasion of th UK) was the one who was instrumental in its cancelation because the RAF was so strong and that inhibited the blitzkrieg tactics which had been so successful in Europe.

Very simple. The President has been GIVEN the power to do this.

I often post things on here and us Brits are always criticised by Americans that we are ruled by the Queen. Which is nonsense the Queen has no power over government and would quickly be overruled by the government of she tried something like Mr Trump has. So my question is if the president can shut down the government which country is run by government and which run by a demigod.

Bob, I would think you have enough problems there and don't have time to focus on a government shutdown which has happened before.

I assume you mean “The Second World War” I would suggest also reading “History of the English-Speaking Peoples” as well for an inside glimpse at what the formative history of our national grandfather was like.
