Yes, it was GAS attack, but if it makes you happy, who cares? Christmas is coming and you have a new toy. Enjoy! Put up some photos for us to see.

I had that lens but gave it up because my legs will no longer handle the weight of the lens, tripod and camera and it was just sitting. Traded it for the P1000 with its 3000mm range.
Sounds like a great purchase but the truth, if you like it, it was a good purchase!
One of my favorite two photographers, Benno Ibold, just upgraded his Sigma 50-500 to this lens (Canon version), so you're in good company. Benno travels the world shooting wildlife and has taken some marvelous photos with his Bigma. He doesn't leave all of them on fb, but if interested, pull him up and check out his albums. His Kenya albums should be especially interesting, although they all are.
Thanks to everyone for commenting. I really appreciated reading each one of the comments.
Billnikon I also appreciated your snarly remarks along with traderjohn. It is because of comments like these that I am hesitant to post much on UHH.
The reason I posted what I did is I was looking for reinforcement on my decision from friends after reading all the other comments on this lens posted by others on the forum. Yes I looked at the Nikon and talked with Nikon personnel only to be disenchanted with their lack of knowledge on the lens and teleconverter. In addition the base price of the lens was significantly higher and the teleconverter, if it worked was 1.5 times the cost of mine. Your great Manfrotto tripod from Adorama was specifically stated to be for a camera and lens up to 200mm. Just the Nikon lens and converter was approx. $1800. A stretch in my budget Bill but may not yours. (cynical)
In the end, I made my decision on what I wanted, and with Black Friday sales at the local camera shop, was able to pick up all I stated for less than $1000. Each item is brand new, in original boxes, and comes with warranties. They also included a remote release and extra battery for my camera.
Thanks again guys and it only goes to show why I am slow to post anything on UHH
Good Shooting and have a Happy Thanksgiving

Don’t know if I had a Gas attack but I went and purchased a new lens today for my Nikon 7100 .... a Sigma contemporary 150 - 600 F 5-6.3 Included in the purchase was the case, lens hood, tripod collar, dock station, a protected lens filter.
In addition I picked up a Sigma 1.4 lens teleconverter, a Pro??? Tripod/monopod and appropriate “L” mounting brackets for the camera and lens.
Hopefully I got all the bases covered now as I still have the 2 kit lenses that came with the camera and have served me well.
Looking for your opinions. Did I do right?
I pick all up on Wed at the local Camera Shop.

I'm curious! Why didn't you ask your question before you made your purchase?
Are you looking for approval, or did you think someone might have dissuaded you?
I'm sure it will work out just fine; enjoy your purchase and happy shooting!

Looks like you did great. Now on to the birds and wildlife! Or that soccer game!

Jim, take a look on the Close Up forum (on UHH) for member SX2002. Ron just got the same lens and has posted photos. He loves it.
Greg
I found it using the "user list" tab and his profile instead of the Close-up forum.

Get the Sigma USB Dock. It allows a lot of lens customization. If you feel you need up to a 1200mm equivalent, your shooting might benefit from a custom AF range (or two since the Sigma lens has two custom switches) to reduce focus hunting. Also the level of micro-adjustment available on this lens is significant.

I've owned the Sigma 150 to 600 C for a couple of years now and find it a great lens for outdoor shooting in good light; not so much in low light or indoors. I shoot mostly birds and the reach is fantastic.

You did well. Have the same lens and very happy with it. You will probably find that in many situations you will need a tripod. I found that trying to use the ball head was cumbersome. Got a gimbal head and wondered how I ever shot without it.
When I used Nikon I had the Tamron one. Loved it. So you did good.
Switched to Fuji a few years ago. Way better. But to each their own.
I am not so sure the tele-converter will work well with such a slow lens. If I am given a choice I would prefer the Nikon 200-500 f5.6 VR but that is me. I like to buy lenses made by the manufacturer of my cameras.
The tripod and L bracket are very nice addition that will serve you well.
Are you Happy with it? Who cares what anyone else thinks?
