Don’t know if I had a Gas attack but I went and purchased a new lens today for my Nikon 7100 .... a Sigma contemporary 150 - 600 F 5-6.3 Included in the purchase was the case, lens hood, tripod collar, dock station, a protected lens filter.
In addition I picked up a Sigma 1.4 lens teleconverter, a Pro??? Tripod/monopod and appropriate “L” mounting brackets for the camera and lens.
Hopefully I got all the bases covered now as I still have the 2 kit lenses that came with the camera and have served me well.
Looking for your opinions. Did I do right?
I pick all up on Wed at the local Camera Shop.

Congratulations on your purchase. That lens is well thought of in the wildlife and birding community. Just a comment on the 1.4x. You will want to practice with it before taking it out in the field. You'll loose a stop, and even with a fast shutter speed (will want 1/2000 or faster), you'll have to hold it very, very steady at 1260mm equivalent. Enjoy!

I had the 150-500 version and loved it. I was able to hand hold it, but not for extended lengths of time. Let us know how you like it, I'm looking to replace my departed friend with the version that you just obtained. Enjoy!

Only you will know after using it all and getting a feeling of it all, as well as seeing the results!

I'm happy with the results from my Sigma 150~600 lens. I had the 1.4 dedicated extender from purchase of the Sigma 150 Macro. But Sigma advised that the (New) 1.4 would be better. Not used the 150~600 with my 1.4 yet, always had enough reach without.

I have the Contemporary (C) in Nikon mount and the Sport (S) in Canon mount. Have matching 1.4 teleconverter for both.
The C is considerably lighter than the S. I feel Sigma did a pretty good job on the two lens. Enjoy yours when you get it.

I have the same camera / lens combo... they are a great pair. When shooting BIF, I recommend a good monopod and head combo to give you some support and additional stability. While the D7100 is not a heavy camera... it, the lens, and a grip (I use grips on all my cameras) get heavy after a while and I appreciate the support that my monopod gives. Happy shooting!

I would say: use the tripod collar instead of the "L" bracket to mount your kit to the tripod, as it reduces the strain on the camera body and has a much better balance.
I have been using the Sigma sport for a good while now on a D7100 and on a D810 works very well as far as I'M concerned the only way to fly!!!!!

Jim, take a look on the Close Up forum (on UHH) for member SX2002. Ron just got the same lens and has posted photos. He loves it.

Let me understand, you made a purchase, now you want us to validate it? Am I understanding your post correctly?
If that is the case, I believe you made the wrong choice. In two years, your lens will be worth about 35-40% what you paid for it. The following would have been a better choice. A Nikon 200-500 f5.6 reduced $200.00 and they are throwing in a free Manfrotto tripod. And, in two years this lens will be worth about 75% of it's value.
