My first shots with 77D and the el cheapo Canon 50mm. Gotta love that lens....

The 50 is the most underrated lens in photography IMHO.
I think you are right; maybe a 35mm is as good..., but, who's to argue about it? Not me.
Great shot of you pup; As Father St. Bernard from "Dog Town" once said, "ain't no such thing as a bad dog".
Never used a nifty 50, but hear they’re pretty sharp!!

Thanks. Can’t beat the quality at that price. Think it was $125 new.

I looked again... Can't beat the looks on that beautiful dog. Bet he understands English too.
I became a dog photographer for a rescue. I have the Nikon 50 1.8 and for the money, maybe my best lens and I have some others that are almost 8-10 times the cost.
HEY Tom. SHE’s my girlfriend! She sleeps between me and my wife.

Well, dogging is a whole other topic, and possibly not appropriate for the UHH main section!
Is this the 1.8 STM version? I am looking to get one my self and I have found a local here that is selling it for 70. I am just wondering as well if I can use this for landscapes and astrophotography shots. Alos great shot of the pup.
Yes. 1.8 STM. . Great lens. But has no focus window like USM lens. Very difficult to focus at night manually as there is very little focus ring play and there is no stop. The ring just keeps turning Suggest you do some research on night manual focus. Or try it out first.
Nothing inappropriate with the dog. It’s just where she likes to sleep.
Use Live View at full magnification and you should be ok. Just very small radial for sweet spot focus.

Both my dogs sleep with my wife and I. We have a sleep number bed so it's split in the middle. One dog likes to sleep in the gully between the two mattresses and the other, at my feet or under my left arm.
