Beautiful series

JoJo is one of the most genetically valuable males in the Western Lowland Gorilla SSP (Species Survival Plan) population and is an especially good match for the adult females at Brookfield Zoo. “Having JoJo come here has been a great success story and demonstrates the collaboration among the zoo community to effectively care for this critically endangered species,” said Craig Demitros, associate curator of primates for the Society. JoJo has a calm disposition.

The Nigerian Dwarf goat is a miniature goat breed of West African ancestry. The original animals were transported from Africa on ships as food for captured carnivores being brought to zoos; the survivors were then maintained in herds at those zoos. Nigerian Dwarf goats are popular as pets and as milkers due to their easy maintenance and small stature.

The Brookfield Zoo is owned by the Cook County Forest Preserve District and is managed by the Chicago Zoological Society. The society sponsors numerous research and conservation efforts globally.

Gorillas live in social groups comprised of one adult male, several adult females, juveniles, and infants. As they reach sexual maturity, both males and females typically leave the group in which they were born. They either establish a new group or join an existing one.

Since Nigerian Dwarf goats breed year-round, it is easy to stagger freshening in a herd for year-round production of milk.

Guenon is the name for a group of medium-sized monkeys that have long back legs, a rounded head, a long tail that helps them balance while moving through the trees, and large cheek pouches. The word guenon comes from the French word for monkey. Monkeys in the guenon group are some of the most colorful, graceful, and lively in Africa.

Gibbons exhibit co-dominance, with females often playing a larger role in food acquisition. Grooming is an important social activity between individuals.

I follow your posts and you truly have a great command of your camera and an eye for composing images that draw people into them. These are outstanding captures as always. I also enjoy the educational information which helps me know more about these amazing creatures and why it is so important for all of us to protect them.

Thank you sippyjug104! Working on editing / re-editiing work from early 2016, I see I was developing focus and low-light capture skills that somewhat exceeded my editing skills. A lot of these images have never been shared where I didn't have the skills / tools needed to finish the image. Glad you've enjoyed.

Thank you Jim! There's several comments from the keepers at Brookfield taking about JoJo's calm demeanor. This image and others I have tend to show a mean frown as our human eyes see his.
