JoJo is one of the most genetically valuable males in the Western Lowland Gorilla SSP (Species Survival Plan) population and is an especially good match for the adult females at Brookfield Zoo. “Having JoJo come here has been a great success story and demonstrates the collaboration among the zoo community to effectively care for this critically endangered species,” said Craig Demitros, associate curator of primates for the Society. JoJo has a calm disposition.

The Nigerian Dwarf goat is a miniature goat breed of West African ancestry. The original animals were transported from Africa on ships as food for captured carnivores being brought to zoos; the survivors were then maintained in herds at those zoos. Nigerian Dwarf goats are popular as pets and as milkers due to their easy maintenance and small stature.

Gorillas live in social groups comprised of one adult male, several adult females, juveniles, and infants. As they reach sexual maturity, both males and females typically leave the group in which they were born. They either establish a new group or join an existing one.

Guenon is the name for a group of medium-sized monkeys that have long back legs, a rounded head, a long tail that helps them balance while moving through the trees, and large cheek pouches. The word guenon comes from the French word for monkey. Monkeys in the guenon group are some of the most colorful, graceful, and lively in Africa.

Chicago between Brookfield and Lincoln Park zoos has a great dedication to the gorilla. I haven't been to Brookfield since the mid 50s. Thank you for the tour de force!

Thank you Rich! Shooting at the zoo offers opportunities to work on wildlife portraits without the full-fledge trip to the wild. Glad you enjoyed.
