I signed up to specifically tell the community that my dad truly enjoyed being part of the Ugly Hedgehog community. My dad, Jerry Goldberg, died last July (1943-2017). He did wedding photography and nature photography and worked as a "photo journalist" for the local Pike County, PA, Courier. Anyway, whenever I spoke to my dad for many years he would be so joyful and animated about something he learned from participating in this group; what other folks were talking about; new cameras discussed, what he was learning about shooting in RAW format; lots of different things. So I just want to say 'thank you', and let you folks know that your conversations and community made an real and positive difference in my dad's life.

Thank you all.

My dad spent thousands of dollars on expensive camera equipment which I have now in my apartment. I'll try tonight or this weekend to make a video and go through his camera backpack and bags of lenses and battery packs, etc., and I'm hoping you folks can tell me the best way to get what I can for my mom. Whether selling the lot on eBay, or just taking everything to Adorama or B&H Photo, etc. There's a lot of stuff, but I don't think it's the most current. Anyway, I'll let you check it out, please.

Thanks again.

Very sorry to hear that you lost your dad. I'm sure you will focus on celebrating his life. For sure list the equipment on UHH. Many will probably be interested. EBay is probably good as well.

There is a JerryG from PA in the member directory that mentions news reporting in his profile. This may be his profile if you're interested in reading the threads he was participating in: http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/user-profile?usernum=3097

Again, very sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss. Since you have all this gear, you might think about using some of it in your fathers memory. Even if it's only for family, I think your father would rest with a bigger smile.

I agree with jccash----keep the equipment, one of these days something will move you to try it out-- I have my mother's camera--the one she used, sent pictures of their baby(me) to my dad who was a pilot in WW2 in England. a film camera which may or may not work--but I would not part with it for anything today--- for a long time it was a piece of junk hanging around-- then, one day.......

Sorry for your loss. Is there any equipment you can use. Your dad would be proud if you did. Even if some of it is older equipment.

Condolences!!

RE: the equipment... by all means shop it for bids from camera stores.....Most bids will be half of current value if that.

I taught eBay classes for ten years at the local community college. I have bought and sold film and camera gear on ebay for near 20 years.

My best tip in your situation follows my tip in class. "Buy lots (kits) and sell pieces". That tip is based on the proposition that no one want every piece of group items you sell, but "someone" wants every individual piece of a large group of items. It's a bit more work but it is financially rewarding. I've made serious money by buying kits or packages of gear, testing them. Then listing them individually. One example. I bought a $500 closeout kit from adorama, sold the bulk of it for $1200, and kept two pieces worth about $200 each for my own use. The deal took about 3 weeks including shipping time, from purchase to receipt of multiple sales.

The beauty is, it all took place on eBay. I have made most of my money by both buying and flipping eBay items. You have a significant advantage. you already have the inventory. So I suggest the best way to get the most money for your mother is to find values for everything on eBay since they keep selling prices on their sold listing pages for 60 days. My other rule is I never pay more than half of what I can sell the item for via eBay sold prices. It works.

There certainly are a number of things to know, risk is low if done right. I have rarely seen anyone lose money or get scammed on eBay, without being a willing participant in the scam and doing something glaringly wrong themselves. eBay is not the crap shoot that Craigslist is, and it's a market venue that numbers in the millions of view each day.

If you have questions, please feel free to PM me for advice.
