I signed up to specifically tell the community that my dad truly enjoyed being part of the Ugly Hedgehog community. My dad, Jerry Goldberg, died last July (1943-2017). He did wedding photography and nature photography and worked as a "photo journalist" for the local Pike County, PA, Courier. Anyway, whenever I spoke to my dad for many years he would be so joyful and animated about something he learned from participating in this group; what other folks were talking about; new cameras discussed, what he was learning about shooting in RAW format; lots of different things. So I just want to say 'thank you', and let you folks know that your conversations and community made an real and positive difference in my dad's life.
Thank you all.
My dad spent thousands of dollars on expensive camera equipment which I have now in my apartment. I'll try tonight or this weekend to make a video and go through his camera backpack and bags of lenses and battery packs, etc., and I'm hoping you folks can tell me the best way to get what I can for my mom. Whether selling the lot on eBay, or just taking everything to Adorama or B&H Photo, etc. There's a lot of stuff, but I don't think it's the most current. Anyway, I'll let you check it out, please.
Thanks again.

Sorry for your loss.... As for your question, You will get more for it by posting it on places like here or eBay. Camera stores are less hassle, but they won't pay as much since they have to make a profit as well. Older technology, unless it was top of the line, likely won't bring much.

Hi Rick. I don't think I knew your Dad, but welcome, and thanks for letting us know. If you knew his "handle" he might ring a bell.
As for the other question, here is my experience.
Ebay may get you a little more money than going to Adorama, B&H, or KEH.com. The issue is what the little bit more is worth to you.
You can post in the "members buy, sell, trade" section here, but people are often leery of a brand new member posting stuff for sale. Maybe if you tell the story, and people who knew your Dad, you may have a leg up there.
Selling to the "A B and K" of reputable used camera sales, will be much easier, but again, you may get up to 20% less than if you sell it yourself. Those business have to make money, so I completely understand, but some don't.
So, ultimately, you may want to try to list it here first in the buy/sell/trade section, and explain the situation, but just be prepared for the inevitable post of "buyer beware, this guy only has 2 posts" etc. You'll have that on any website, not just UHH, it's just how it is. Members looking out for other members, and all that.
Good luck, with whatever you do, and so sorry for your loss. Losing a parent is just awful, and I know how hard it is to ultimately let go of things that were so important to that parent. I'm kind of doing the same thing right now, myself.

Sorry for your loss. Do you know your Father's screen name?
I just wanted to mention that Bromfield Camera in Boston offers estate appraisals and / or consignment selling for situations likes yours. I have never dealt with them in this context, but I can say they are a true camera store that has been around for ever. A lot of 'old time' photographers seem to hang out there.

Richard I am very sorry to here of the father's passing. I was shocked to read his birth year 1943 which is my own. And for years we lived
in PA in the suburbs of Philly. This forum has some really expert photographers and some enthusiasts. And I am sure was one of them.
I admire your dad for his "photo journalist" days at the newspaper. I am doing as much documentary work as I can. And make some money on video and stills. And work for charities. I am sad that I don't remember sharing ideas with Jerry.
ebay will get you good prices. They take 10% commission. Catalogue the equipment and send it to B&H & Adorama and get some feedback. B&H is very helpful. Or you just might pick up one of the 35mm cameras mount a lens and do some some shooting.
Sorry for your loss.
I don't know if I followed your Dad's posts since you give his name but not his user name on UHH.
Selling to a dealer is easier and quicker but gets less money.
Selling on UHH, ebay etc gets more money but is more work.
Selling one item at a time usually gets more money overall and is faster but is more work.

Richard, Sorry for your loss. I hope I had crossed paths with your Dad. He sounded like a fine man. Thanks for posting that. Since you are in New York, the least less hassell for you would be to bring it to B&H. If you want to do a listing of the items, I would be glad to advise you further. You can Private message me.
Sorry for your loss.
If I was you, I’d keep the camera collection. It is a great hobby. You can pick up where your dad left off. Also display the cameras with some famed one CTI red from your dad. This will remind you of him.
