It is very subjective, but look into Tibetan Terriers. They are called little people. They tend to like what you like. If active they are active, if you are lazy, they are lazy.

Don’t let the dog pick you! Watch a few Cesar Milan videos about how to pick the right dog.

While I’m tempted to say the best dog is someone else’s I don’t think you can find a better companion than a Golden receiver. Had one that knew at least 50 commands.
