Golden retriever. I have 2 and they are great to take out and shoot with.

I like the Border Collie as well, loyal, smart and active. You have to be able to keep up with them though as they love their walks and exercise.
This is mine at 14 yrs. Personally I like rescued dogs as they appreciate the second chance.
Beautiful looking pet. Other than miniature Schnauzers, which I have had three over the years. Two of them were North American champions. I would love a Border Collie, if I end up getting another dog.
My friend Geoff has a "hearing" dog because of his hearing impairment. Well trained, listens to what instructions he is given. The dog is a curry hair full size standard poodle. Never goes anywhere without his dog, and he is out every day shooting pictures both inside and outside the city.

Springer Spaniel - they are trained as gun or police search dogs. They need lots of exercise so a good excuse to get out and about. They have a very friendly face - so are unthreatening to others and they are great with small children.
Downside is....they love water, mud, puddles etc. When mine gets bored he deliberately sits 'in shot'. He always sits in doorways and will bark if a pin drops.
By most accounts the Border Collie is the smartest of the AKC recognized breeds, but I'd also vote for a mixed breed that had some Border Collie in its ancestry.

One that doesn't jump on you as you're pressing the shutter release.
My dog - a newfoundland is a serious challenge... She photographs like a black hole! Very hard to see her face in most of my shots and she also spends 98% of her life sniffing things which is not so photogenic... Here are some shots.

How about this guy, fearless, bravest dog I ever knew, didn't care what the weather was sun, rain, wind, cold, snow, ice. Most loyal companion, I had the good fortune of enjoying his company for 14 1/2 years. If he was with me I was protected.
Here is a picture of him at six months coming when he was called, a fearsome sight, lol. Sat down and worked out the he and I walked almost 14,000 kilometres in those years. Great memories but will never replace him.
Sorry for the quality, scanned film print from a point and shoot in 1996.
My dog pretty much goes everywhere with me, and happily carries some of my supplies in his saddle bag when out shooting.

If you have PS-Elements, you have the perfect editing tool for this problem. Just click on Enhance, Adjust Lighting, Shadows/Highlights. It corrects the dark objects without much change to the rest of the photo.
