My very first lens was a 55 mm Micro Nikkor Auto AI-s. I still use it frequently. It was my first lens (along with a 43-86 zoom that I no longer have). I also have a Nikon 50 mm 1.4 AI-s for low light and a 50 mm AF-s for when I want AF. They are all great lenses.

Mine is my Minolta AF 50mm f3.5 Macro. I love this lens for copying slides and general photography. It is wicked sharp, no matter the f stop. A close contender is my 50mm Pentax Takumar f1.4 SMC which I use in low light and portrait work.

My favorites include the Minolta AF 2.8 mm and 100 macro's, Nikon 60 mm 2.8 D AF, and my all time favorite my manual focus Zeiss Milvus 50mm f/2M ZF.2 .

Hey Streets, I've got a couple fifties too. A Nikkor f/1.8d and f/1.4d. The 1.8d I got with the purchase of a Nikon D90 at a yard sale for $200 along with an SD card, battery and charger it was a sweet deal and I was pleasantly surprised at the lens's sharpness and color rendition. The 1.4d is a recent purchase from a UHH member which I've only had a week or two and haven't really had the chance to evaluate it compared to the 1.8. So at this point in time if I had to choose one as a favorite it would be the 1.8 as for me right now it's a known quantity.

Sigma 50 mm f 1.4 (in a Nikon mount).
It is the sharpest lens I own.

Voigtlander 58mm 1.4. It's an incredible lens, but manual focus so many overlook it.

It is near impossible to find a 50mm lens that will not perform well. All 50mm lenses have low to imperceptible amounts of distortion and all of them are very well corrected optically.
The 50mm lens I use is the 1972 Nikon f1.4 S that I had converted to AI for use with my digital cameras.

I love my Sony 50mm e-mount. I love my Nikon 50mm F-mount. Luv 'em both. Do I have to choose?

Konica Hexanon F1.7 & Nikon F1.8D. Both offer great price/quality ratio.
