Amazon is just about everywhere where as B&H is only in NY.

We have a warehouse in NJ also. We collect sales tax for in-store transactions and for any order shipped to NY or NJ.

Same with us in Florida. We also have an office in Alabama. Do any Shipping to Florida or Alabama we collect tax. But sometimes if I sell a product and have it dropped ship the manufacturer collects tax. AJA for example. If I order an AJA product to be dropped shipped to a California address, AJA collects sales tax. If I have that same item shipped to my office in Florida and then I ship it to California we don’t collect tax.

Cameta and B&H do not charge tax outside of NY. Same for for KEH if you are outside of GA. Adorama has a warehouse they ship from in NJ so they collect tax for both NY and NJ. Amazon collects tax for most states once they are viewed as the seller, i.e. you pay them even if it being provided by a 3rd party as well as when they have a physical location in that state (warehouse, shipping office, etc).

On a big ticket item like the D850, tax for the body only can be upwards of $350 just for the body. I personally prefer to deal with B&H and Cameta since 1) I don't have to pay tax and 2) I get to speak with a real person who knows cameras for any questions.

Enjoy your camera when it arrives. No matter where you purchased it, you are going to love it!

KEH does charge tax for CA.

Stores can not charge tax. They collect the tax for the state.

They charge you or your card and they turn that charge for the taxes over to the Govt.
