I have used Lightroom CC for about 4 years and have over 30,000 photos in the catalog. I have never had a problem with the import function.

In my opinion, everything I've used in Lightroom works well!

Just a second opinion.

I've used Lightroom for over 10 years and have had no issues, most Lightroom problems are "Pilot Error".

I do not understand why people are so opposed to the PS/LR model. its 9.95 a month. You get updates on a regular basis and to buy them as a stand alone is well over 900 bucks. and then you would have to pay for the updates every year. I you run into $$ problems you can cancel and the programs will continue to work you just would not have the updates. For my money these two programs are the best in the business for post processing our work.

Some folks smoke at the cost of close to 9 bucks a pack, other drink beer at the cost of around 10 buck a six pack. Heck just filling the gas tank on my truck cost me 30 to 40 bucks a week.

I don't dare talk about the cost of our equipment...

Gee, what is all the complaining about[/quote]

You can pay one annual fee a year for light room Photoshop CC if you prefer and pay $119.98.

Plus 8% tax if I were to get it.

I have used Zoner Photo Studio for years now, the latest version is ZPS "X.
You can try it free for 30 days to see if you like it, it works on you own libraries so you don't to create catalogues.
This new version is subscription based but if you like it you can use the earlier version ZPS 18 which is very similar and has a very low one of payment so you can use it forever.

While I love lightroom adobe's subscription model ticks me off. Any suggestions for alternatives which include the catalog and organization capabilities as well as the develop functions. I have no need for photoshop at this time as I can handle all my PP activities from LR develop moduoe

You will switch to something else and find something else to complain about.

I have never had one problem that wasn't my fault. Have had Lightroom for over 5 years and love CC. The subscription included Photoshop, a program that I have always wanted but was way out of my price range.

A push mower always worked for me, never needed anything more...until I discovered a riding mower.

I dumped LR CC very soon. In my estimation the real problem with the Adobe products is the Catalog system. It does not work well. The import function breaks far too easily.

Yes. I know I can buy light room, in fact I have. Being in the software business and seeing a lot of products switching to subscriptions, it is ,IMO, only a matter of time before adobe switches to subscriptions only. I am well aware of Linux options, I have worked with Linux for well over 20 years and currently work on a product that uses Linux. Yes I can catalog on my own using the file system, but that looses me the keyword searching of the Lightroom catalog. I pulled affinity and Corel down last night and played around with them. Corel seems to be more comparable to lr in its management of content than affinity. It will take some getting used to and I still need to try out the printing component, but it looks like a reasonable alternative

Might want to consider two packages to replace the one and separate file management and storage from post processing. photo mechanic is a good and fast file management system for sorting and evaluating originals. Then something like others have suggested for processing and there are new ones alike ON1.

FYI, my auto correct keeps changing Photomechanix I was taught it by a NG pro who says they all use it because it is fast. When they go on a shoot they turn in their all of their original files.

It is fast but $150 is a bit steep for essentially a file preview tool

I'm not sold at all and while lightroom can take a while to import as soon as the first photo is in you can be editing it in the develop module and if your photo's are consistent you can be copy pasting or syncing the other images as you go. Once imported lightroom is pretty fast especially if you are looking at photo's in the library module and not the develop module.
