While I love lightroom adobe's subscription model ticks me off. Any suggestions for alternatives which include the catalog and organization capabilities as well as the develop functions. I have no need for photoshop at this time as I can handle all my PP activities from LR develop moduoe

Affinity Photo is available for both MAC and PC.
Macphun Luminar is available now on MAC and is coming soon for PC.

I use both, but Luminar the most.

I dumped LR CC very soon. In my estimation the real problem with the Adobe products is the Catalog system. It does not work well. The import function breaks far too easily.

I have used Lightroom CC for about 4 years and have over 30,000 photos in the catalog. I have never had a problem with the import function.

In my opinion, everything I've used in Lightroom works well!

Just a second opinion.

They still sell LR as a standalone but it doesn't have all the features. Though some are available as add-ons from third parties. You can also buy PSE as a standalone and with Elements+ ($12) it does almost everything PS does, just in a bit different way.

Or you can abandon Adobe and go to Corel. After Shot is Corel's answer to LR and Paint Shop Pro is their answer to PS.

Buy stand alone Lightroom 6. No monthly fees.

I do not understand why people are so opposed to the PS/LR model. its 9.95 a month. You get updates on a regular basis and to buy them as a stand alone is well over 900 bucks. and then you would have to pay for the updates every year. I you run into $$ problems you can cancel and the programs will continue to work you just would not have the updates. For my money these two programs are the best in the business for post processing our work.

Some folks smoke at the cost of close to 9 bucks a pack, other drink beer at the cost of around 10 buck a six pack. Heck just filling the gas tank on my truck cost me 30 to 40 bucks a week.

I don't dare talk about the cost of our equipment...

Gee, what is all the complaining about

It doesn't conform to the "but I've always done it this way" mentality. Anything new must be bad...

If you shoot RAW try On1 Raw. It will index photos and develop them, also has a very good search system.

Unfortunately the 2 programs do not continue to work once your subscription lapses, if only it did, subscribe for a year then keep using it as is until you get a new camera or need a new feature thats come out and then subscribe again :)

Adobe subscription would go through the roof , for year 1...

I virtually never purchase upgrades; I purchase what works for me and then use it.

I don't smoke or drink. My Ford Fiesta gets 40mpg on the open road. The most I've ever spent on a camera kit was the $700 I spent for a Canon EOS Elan kit that I then used for 11 years. Your argument might work in your world, but has no meaning in mine.

Add a partition and upload Linux (any flavour) as a secondary operating system you could then use Darktable, (LR Replacement) UFRaw, (Raw Processor) Delaboratory (an advanced image processor that lists every action and each action can be removed individually if required) Gimp (A PSE alternative with more graphic options) etc all as open source freeware. And still keep your operating system of choice.

If you just want to download and catalogue your images then more simple programmes will do this on a calendar system or you could build an image system based on 'what or where or date' file names.

We had catalogues before LR.......people just had to rely on other post processing systems as well.

Have fun
