Peek, I saw this mentioned on David Oastlers latest vlog.

He also pointed out that it SEEMS that fro-knows DELIBERATELY tried to make the camera "fail"... that is, if you call 2% of your total images shot under rarely occurring lighting conditions a failure... by shooting FOOTBALL at 1/4000 and some extremely high ISO. Totally unnecessary for Soccer.

I mean... who does that?

SOMEONE TRYING TO FIND FAULT WITH THE CAMERA... that's who!

Shilly, it's important to find the strengths and weaknesses of a product, especially if trying to offer informed guidance to a wide range of people.

The A9 is clearly a good camera, and a significant achievement for Sony, but it isn't perfect for everybody. Videos like Jared Polin's Fro Knows gave a balanced perspective, some good, some pointing out limitations, which may or may not matter to specific individuals. Clearly we need a range of reviews and different perspectives to be objective. Look up the definition of objectivity, here's a fair one: "Objectivity is a noun that means a lack of bias, judgment, or prejudice. Maintaining one's objectivity is the most important job of a judge." Apparently you do not qualify to be a judge.

I absolutely cannot agree with the comment "by shooting FOOTBALL at 1/4000 and some extremely high ISO. Totally unnecessary for Soccer". Spoken like someone who has no understanding of soccer as played in the real world - ie anything beyond the USA. Speed, action and variable light apply to the entire planet, not just things like American football. Where does the USA rank in terms of the world Soccer leagues? For the men its 23rd, so to their credit they have been improving slowly! For women, the USA does lead the ranking, slightly ahead of Germany, France, Canada and the UK.

What conclusion should we draw from that? The obvious one is that US women are at the top of their game and that US men are simply uncompetitive, which is why they need a sport of their own that most of the rest of the world doesn't bother to play!

It should not have the banding....period. Not at high ISO, not at any shutter speed, should NOT be there. Keep looking for excuses for it and keep looking dumber with each post. How many professional soccer events have you shot?r You can barely take a sanpshot of a standing still building. Or am I wrong? Lets see your work. Lets see your knowledge put into actual images. Prove you are not a mediocre, crap talker, fanboy.

There you go again with the insults, the last resort of the insecure with a crumbling position. I get the feeling I've been here before and I really should know better than get involved in this no doubt pointless exercise. GBS said it best "Never wrestle with pigs, you get dirty and the pig likes it". If I repeat myself I may get through in the end, possibly.

This is NOT banding due to the sensor, why would you claim it is? I suppose you'd say the same about the banding induced by a fluorescent tube?

Where anyone said it was a sensor issue? Not me. It was your boyfriend who started throwing the "troll" insult around to anyone who had a different opinion. But you like to wrestle that pig, right? The banding is THERE. Its not the sensor maybe BUT its there. Nothing insecure and the argument stays where it was from the beginning. The banding appears under some conditions and can ruin a photo. Live with it. Im sorry you dont have the brain power to get that.

You know what the last result for specimens like you is......trying desperately to sound knowledgable, but obviously failing every time.

Regardless of our opinions we do not need homophobic slurs on the forum. I'm happy to name Cholly as a troll and a shill since his behavior exemplifies that. I don't care about people's preferences, but behavior is a different thing. Shall we try to keep this civil and non-discriminatory even if we do take pointed jibes at one another?

If there is evidence of banding in certain circumstances it would be good to explore that. Are there lighting frequency issues to be examined? That can happen with shutters and lighting frequencies with multiple camera types. It doesn't mean that the camera is at fault, maybe just technologies interfering with each other, like old TV western wagon wheels appearing to run backwards....

Point taken. But my argument is still valid. Did you said it was a sensor issue? I didnt. Why then this genius comes up saying anyone here said it was a sensor issue. I want HIM to answer that, because Im tired of these clowns just lying to defend their point.

I agree, and thanks for the response. As you may have noticed, I'm not exactly in their corner, but I'd rather nail them for the point they are trying and failing to make.

If anyone is still in doubt, just look at the reviews from Ken Rockwell or Tony Northrup. Both those guys agree on that Sony A9 is better than the Canon 1DX and Nikon D5. And neither of them can find this banding problem that some trolls are crying about everywhere this camera is discussed. Bottom line is that this is the fastest, most accurate focusing, highest megapixel and lowest priced pro sports and news camera on the market today, and doing it all dead silent. There you have it plain and simple ;)

But I can admit that it has no pop up flash. And that really kills it for some people ;)

"Will no one rid UHH of these meddlesome trolls and shills?"

This used to be a decent forum, with some decent information around. Even the occasional objective opinion. It seems that the forum has descended into brand wars and fanboydom. Even the more informed contributors seem to be playing the game.

Rockwell? Northrup? They all have opinions, as valid as anybody else, and some better than others, but they're both exploiting click bait to earn a penny or two.

The forum seems to be going the way that our country and the world is going. Pick your corner and throw insults at the other side.

A sad perspective on what should be a national holiday and perhaps an opportunity to reach out instead of throwing vitriol.

No, you didn't actually blame the Sensor, you blamed the camera for "banding". Banding is invariably a sensor issue so you're just splitting hairs. I notice you ignored my point about the banding caused by fluorescent light but that's about par for the course. I made several points on the second page in response to various claims you made but as usual, you ignore the facts and simply resort to abuse.

No, I don't think so. Banding is an issue, regardless of the cause. Some cameras deal better with interference than others. This shouldn't be a brand superiority issue, nor a pissing contest.

What is more interesting is identifying the cause and how to deal with it.

No, Rockwell and Northrup have more valid opinions than most others as they have both tested an actual A9 camera. Most of us here have not. And they have also tested and used lot of other cameras for comparison. So their opinion has actually much more weight than most other opinions, in my mind at least. And I am not saying that I believe everything they say or agree with them on everything. But as more experienced people agree on things, the more I believe.

That is a fair response, no issues with that. What I want to see is objectivity and a range of informed opinions. I'm not dismissing either of those guys, we all need to earn a living, and I do pay attention, but I like to see more balance - which they typically deliver - than some of us on UHH!

Take good care!

Reading comprehension my friend... David Oastler said it.

But you're right; I agree. Looks like he shot completely out of the exposure envelope needed to get good, noiseless images. I mean... what was he trying to freeze?

Remember; most field sports are shot between 1/500 and 1/1500 or 1/1600. So 1/4000 WAS both excessive AND unnecessary. And 2% of the time, the result was FLICKER... not banding... from the surrounding LED display.

HARDLY a problem, in fact; NOT A PROBLEM... and that's not ME saying that either. It's the folk at DPREVIEW.

Pete, PLEASE do not lower yourself to the level of those immature, trolls.

They are attention whores with a personality disorder who are NOT worth your time or effort.

Just ignore them; they make themselves look bad every single time they post.
