Rockwell... Northrup... and the folk at DPREVIEW.

And the wedding photographer Wes Perry says it is probably the best camera in the world today. And it is a great wedding camera for many reasons, like the silent shutter, fast and accurate autofocus and eye recognition and many more.

Even if you watch on Youtube the review that Theoria Apophasis made about this camera it is really a positive negative review. I call this negative review positive because the guy says the A9 is in many ways the worlds best camera, like the autofocus and the silent shutter. But he hates it because it is made in Thailand, (I do not see how that matters) and he hates the ergonomics because they are not in similar style as Canon or Nikon (many Canon and Nikon folks do not like the ergonomics of the other brand, ergonomics are more a matter of taste and habit). And he really hates the price, says it is a $2.800 camera. The only things he is negative about that make some sense is the shutter speed of the mechanical shutter which he describes as an after thought being only 5 fps. and that a separate battery charger is not included with the camera. Some other guys do not agree on the battery charger complaint as a charger came with their cameras. In other ways he mostly claims this camera to be the best camera on the market for sports, wildlife, paparazzi and press ;)

I have been watching more youtube stuff about this camera as I usually do when new cameras are out and overall I think this camera gets more positive reviews than any other camera launched the past years. So I am more convinced than ever that this is probably the best sports and wildlife and press camera today.

So I think if people are seriously considering this camera they should just buy it. There are no problems to worry about like banding and overheating. But also those who believe banding and overheating is all there is about this camera, they can just buy the old stuff and should be happy with that without bullying this camera all the time. No camera is perfect anyway, that is why we keep getting new models every year. And even if I am not buying this camera or any other camera this year, because I do not need more cameras now, I want to thank Sony for this camera. It is such a great leap forward in the development of cameras that all photographers should be happy about it. It is putting lot of pressure on other manufacturers to improve their cameras and that is what we all want. Better and better and better cameras all the time. If not for Sony we would all be sitting 2 years behind where we are now in this technology.

Yeah he doesn't buy it either. He bought more expensive cameras that aren't the world best.

Not sure I'd agree Cholly. The a99M2 is a very capable camera and it does have 42Mpix which is very useful when it comes to cropping, you could say it's a crop camera on steroids. The silent shutter would certainly be very useful and the AF speed is probably close to the a99M2, not sure but 24MPix??? I'm sure there will be a replacent a7rM* which will fit the bill.

Blue Heron, a99M2 with Minolta 28-135/4 .......

^^^Compelling argument.

I also want to add, that once again, I would be using my A mount glass on any potential A9 camera... which as you said, would make frame rate almost equal with the A99II. And with respect to the A99II... well; that 42mp sensor is one of the best in the business, so you can certainly understand why I was leaning heavily towards the A99II.

That's a camera I have been waiting for for a LOOOOOOONG time.

Would I be MORE tempted by an A9R or an A7RIII that could shoot 20 fps?

Peek, like you, I have a LOT of A mount glass; Minolta, Sony, Sony G, Sony Zeiss and Minolta G. I don't know if I would be willing to toss it all and start up an E mount collection just to have Native lenses on an A7XX or A9 body. So for now, the A99II has the edge, even though the features of the A9 make it VERY tempting....

^^^You're right On ALL counts.

I've seen those reviews too and VERY few people who actually SHOOT it completely dismiss it. Most say it really IS a game changer... even if they were totally biased against the camera from the beginning or just plain anti-Sony.

Even Fro-Knows had nice things to say about the camera despite his "sniff" test.

Times are changing and the technology used in photography is moving forward. This camera really IS good for everyone.

Cholly, you have to remember that Minolta lenses were specced to work at relatively low frame rates due to the spring return on the aperture lever. You could shoot wide open with no problem and maybe one stop down but unless the a9 takes that in to account and can hold the aperture open whilst the electronic shutter does it's bit,, well??? TBH, frame rates don't bother me, I rarely if ever use other than single frame advance.

Me neither which is why I'm still on the fence using the a7rM2 and the a99M2 for what they each do best.

Peek, THAT'S why Minolta lenses are limited to 10fps on the A9.... but what Sony REALLY needs to do for us to be able to use all the Minolta and KM lenses, is come up with a new adapter... the LA-EA5... that dumps the SLT but keeps the screw drive and ALSO has an enhanced Aperture mechanism.

THAT... would be PERFECT for the Minolta 400mm f/4.5 APO HighSpeed G, which is SUPER SHARP and has EXCELLENT color rendition. It's geared fast enough to shoot 15-16 fps in continuous AF but as you say the aperture is the problem.

You know what would REALLY be great? An A mount mirrorless, with the size and resolution of A mount cameras and the AF system and speed from the A9.

Now THAT... is a camera I would hold out for and buy!

And Sony hasn't built one for you yet? Poor puppy. Maybe soon, if you are very, very good....
